People have mentioned the cleat screws. Also check the screws that hold the SPD mechanism onto the pedal body. I had a very similar problem with SPDs and it turned out that one screw holding the SPD mechanism down had loosened a bit.

after some careful anal ysis i think i figured it out. Because there are big cages around the spring loaded pedal part, when i'm pedaling, it keeps the spring under tension, but when I released that pressure (it only needs to be minor) the pedals flicks back into the cleat and makes a clicking noise. it doesn't seem to be hurting anything, but i think that its about time i got rid of these offensively large pedals.

i've got rid of this problem before by making sure the cleats are uber tight on my shoes (incl. thread-lock). if poss bed the cleat into the shoe slightly. it worked on egg-beaters and m520's.
sure it's not a worn thread where the pedal screws into the crank? good luck |

I have the same problem w/ my 520's. I am 100% sure it is coming from the shoe. I will go and tighten the bolts cleat bolts and hope it goes away :)
