Im sure has been covered, but i couldnt find an answer when searching. Though im sure some of you can. But what length chain is needed to get both wheels and frame locked up? Im doubting that the 3' will do. Thanks in advance.

maybe around some things, but not comfortably or regularly.

my krypto chain is 46" long and i can easily lock my 57-58 cm frames with both wheels to a street sign post, bike rack, fence post, or any other fairly low-profile object.

with standard street sign posts, i can usually get the chain through both wheels and lock to the 3rd or 4th link. it's possible that a 36" chain would get the job done. it would also be somewhat easier on a smaller frame with a smaller wheelbase.

i'd carry a mini u-lock to secure the rear wheel to the frame.

I can get my 3'3" nyc chain through both wheels and my 53cm frame - if i'm locking to a street sign or bike rack. (I think that is the length - 39" not 36")
I even fasten the lock around the crank and chain.

Anything wider than a street sign though, and i can't get both wheels.
So, if i'm leaving the bike for any length of time, I sometimes have to look for an unoccupied street sign.

Oh, and be sure you don't use the lock pictured in brunning's avatar - but i'm sure you know that.

on a frame with 700c wheels and a 1m wheelbase, it should just be long enough.

you can try with a piece of rope or something, maybe even flex a tape measure around and get an idea.

I'd be more worried about the street sign than the lock in your case.

I came home to more than one street sign (pole and all) in my living room on a Saturday morning in college. My roommates were very creative on the way home from the bar.
