Chain..Sometimes tight..sometimes loose?

What makes chain tension have tight and loose spots?

trackandtrials 01-31-06 09:41 PM

non-concentric chainrings or cogs

sr20det 01-31-06 09:42 PM

biopace.

paule 01-31-06 09:43 PM

Yeah, and cheaper old chainrings.

Fugazi Dave 01-31-06 09:43 PM

Ugly pants.

lanman 01-31-06 09:48 PM

Nothing is perfectly round first off. Second, the way the chainring is bolted on is never perfect, so it will always be slightly off.

Aus Rotten 01-31-06 09:55 PM

Crap.. I was hoping it wasnt the pants.

Aus Rotten 01-31-06 09:56 PM

OK then knowing that, should i run the chain set at the tight spot or the loose spot?

spud 01-31-06 09:58 PM

a little bit looser than tight

geog_dash 01-31-06 09:59 PM

http://sheldonbrown.com/fixed.html#tension

mcoine 01-31-06 09:59 PM

bent chainring, bent crank spider or crank arm

Aus Rotten 01-31-06 10:00 PM

Makes sense.....

bigbikerbrian 01-31-06 10:02 PM

adjust it at the tightest spot. rotate it all around, find the tightest spot, adjust it there.
whatever, look at the sheldon thing. hes a GODDAM genius.

Rikardi151 01-31-06 10:08 PM

sounds like a bent chainring. Spin it fast while upside down or on a sand and look at the chainring for a wobble.

vomitron 01-31-06 10:08 PM

Once you go slack, you'll never go back.

or...

If it's loose, it'll hasten your caboose.

Your right...Sheldon's site helped, its scarry, but it helped.
