What diameter box wrench takes off the bolts holding a car wheel on? Also does a box wrench have enough leverage?
edit: before you get your panties in a bunch I know this could kill someone if their wheel fell off on the freeway. |
Do you mean the lug nuts? Depends on the car. As with bicycle parts, there is little uniformity.
|
Yeah, that's what they are called, good lord was I stumped for the proper term.
|
unless it is a very long wrench or you are a gorilla, i doubt you would have the leverage with a standard box wrench.
|
a half cup of sugar in a gas tank can be grounds for an engine rebuild but a 20 ounce bottle of water can cause major headaches.
removing the plug on the oil tank is a lot easier than the lugs on the wheels headlights on newer cars are really really really friggin expensive and fragile to boot superglue nozzles fit into keyholes deep gouges are noticed most often on the drivers side door. |
You can take a car wheel off with a box wrench assuming you have sufficiant offset to clear the rim flange. The two sizes that fit 99.9% of cars are 13/16-21mm and 3/4-19mm. Enjoy.

If you've got something malicious planned, I can offer no help. But I can tell you that if you are trying to use anything but a decent lug wrench to install a wheel, it won't be tight enough.
|
^^^ which good be what your after so expat you just gave help for something that might be a malicious plan.
Go for the keying if you go deep enough the panels will have to be replaced |
From my days as a tire/oil monkey, along with my impact gun, I kept a 17mm socket for volkswagons (and I think those other german cars, which have bolts, not lugs), and i think 19mm and 21mm's for the other 99% of cars.
Please don't do anything stupid... |
If you have a problem with someone, take it to their face, not their possessions. That's like tacoing some poor guy's wheel. Just low man.
If it's legit, your car's jack set, if it's a screw type, will most likely have the proper sized wrench incorporated as the wrench used to jack the car up. |
In the words of the immortal shants, "Risks are the jam". That is all.
FYI, the lug wrench from my VW's also happens to work on my Nissan. There seems to be some uniformity. |
I am being straight with saying I do have nothing planned, and I thankfully have no problem with anyone big enough for me to be that big of a dick. This was mainly more about my love for juvenile mischief ************ (figurative ************).

You just use your foot on the wrench... lug nuts are set to 75-120ft lbs |
