For surviving cars and kisses and being able to let my lungs and heart and legs burn and sing songs of love and loss and redemption. For being able to take in freezing and then burn the world with my exhalation. For riding until I have nothing left and then riding home. And for all of you.

-165, Absntr, Skitbra, Ira, Teadoggg, Salome, and everybody else in the Dirty Chicago Crew, who were awesome friends back when I lived in Chi and who have remained every bit as awesome in the year+ since I left.
-Keevohn for making me aware of fixed gear in the first place, and for generally being a kickass friend going back to high school
-Marcus at Yojimbos, John at Business Cycles, eberybody at Cyclextreme (Columbia, MO), Sam at Under the Weather
-The guy at Phil Wood who told me what sort of axle kit I needed to convert a wheelchair hub that I got stuck with in a sh*tty auction to a road hub
-My friend Yohei in Japan who hooked me up
-Empty streets
-Summer rains
-Confidence gained through riding
-Getting hooked

DonPenguino 02-12-06 08:57 PM

My friends at UIUC for getting me back on two wheels.

Bruce in Champaign for knowing far more than I expect to in my lifetime about bikes, and for working at Murphy's.

The roadie that stopped riding and provided me with the base for my build.

Everyone here and at FGG for the company and opinions/knowledge.

England for taking me in for awhile, and the cider. I would sell my body for the cider.

Chicago for on the spot amusement and memories.

Those who aren't afraid to look strangers in the eye.

Dark and dreary and wet days that the world fails to appreciate.

[165]- For sending me a copy of the novel he will eventually write. (Am I the only one who thinks he is an exceptionally gifted writer?)

•Columbus Police in general for ignoring me thus far as I ignore most rules of the road.
•All of the friendly riders in my town who never made fun of me for trying to keep up on a full suspensions MTB

I'm with you on all of those, except for the Chitown part. We all know that California is the coolest state, although I'm still undecided on which city is the coolest there.

But seriously, big ups to this place. Without you all, Sheldon Brown (.com), my thinking that fixed gears looked cool, and my disdain for keeping derailleurs, gears, and **** clean, I probably never would have gotten back into riding (or started racing) and the enjoyment that goes along with it.

And BIG thanks to Tony (IRO) for coming up with the Jamie Roy - it was the bike that got the ball rolling for me.
