So I was out festivizing, and it started snowing. It just didn't look like there would be any, otherwise I would've called somebody. It's just a few inches deep out there right now over a couple layers of crust, but its starting to accumulate in some places so be careful. Not much compared to what many of you further west have to endure. ;) Thanks to technology I was able to document my tipsy ride back home.

(I know the colors are off due to the lighting and the camera etc. etc. but I'm too lazy to correct it - I am not riding on a blanket of frozen piss)

At first it looked pretty, but the wind was whipping it into my eyes something fierce. I had to don the sunglasses.

carving a fresh path on the manhattan bridge. This is first time I've gone on just the platforms, feet out of the clips for the entire ride

and when I got home, snow was crammed into every cravasse of my entire being.

Rode slow, took it easy, didn't crash, got home safe. and I got to play in the snow like a kid again!

You make me real sad for not living on the east side these days.

My wife, still in Boston, was giving me the play-by-play this evening on the storm.

lumenredundas 02-12-06 06:05 AM

dude snow can be some of the most fun ever for rideing and playing around in.

Personally, it scares the isht out of me when I'm on the bike... To each his own.

MacG 02-12-06 08:14 AM

I really like riding in 1/2 inch of undisturbed snow. It makes everything really quiet and keeps road spray from flying.

Skinny, hard tires are the best for snow, but as soon as there's any smooth ice underneath it, you're probably going to have a spooky time without studs.

skelly 02-12-06 09:31 AM

I can't believe the snow we got. It snowed here for like 6 hours last night and not a single snowflake stuck to the ground. I wake up today and everything's covered.

iamjberube 02-12-06 09:37 AM

yep, just got the call...no work for me today! time to work on my snowplow avoidance skills.

jayrooney 02-12-06 09:40 AM

it's getting deep! as of 10am, 22" in central park!!!

BadAssBiker 02-12-06 10:30 AM

Just took my dog out and it was up to her neck. A little too deep to do any riding in for me today.

Msngr 02-12-06 10:37 AM

then there's this

~stella 02-12-06 10:46 AM

its' really really piling up in connecticut. i dont think i'll be on my bike for a week.

Ceya 02-12-06 10:47 AM

U stay home Msngr. too many broken parts.

Chombo try riding the bridge now.LOL

I am trying to put a bike together for the snow since my

Cyclocross/trackie project fail.

wangster 02-12-06 11:17 AM

yeah, no biking today for me... I spen t all of yesterday takin apart the bikes and cleaning them top to bottom so I'm not about to go out in that craziness and get crap all over them.

Phillio 02-12-06 12:01 PM

Last night riding home from the bar was cool, a pain in the ass, but fun because of the unlimited skiddability of the streets. For that reason I didn't even want to go inside, just wanted to skid endlessly all night...of course a ski mask would have been nice.

iamjberube 02-12-06 12:05 PM

yeah, i changed my mind about riding too once i actually walked outside. deep...still nice to have no cars around though.

dudeman 02-12-06 12:22 PM

just tried to ride around the l.e.s.. a little harder than i thought, but sooo much fun. get out there if you can.

Not. Fair. I live in wisconsin and there is no snow. I shouldn't need to move to NY in order to get a decent snowfall. To conclude: I'm jealous.

man. i miss snow now. moved from boise, where it snows now and then, to portland where...it rains.

i just want one more day to play in the snow. ah, well...c'est la vie.

tacofreedom 02-12-06 04:52 PM

Man the snow here in philly is awsome. Today shoveling snow for old people I made just enough money to pay for the components on my SS.

r-dub 02-13-06 02:30 AM

I was almost stuck in jersey for another night. Took a truck ride, two trains, three airports and two airlines, but I made it out of that hell-hole of a winter wonderland alive.

Boe 02-13-06 07:31 AM

You snowlovers should come and ride with us sometimes!

i was riding around central park yesterday morning while it was still snowing. it was such a blast. the road wasn't so much plowed as it was groomed, so it was sort of soft-surface hardpack with no ice--tons of fun.

Leif-fire-eater 02-13-06 05:34 PM

BOE those pics are amazing. Holy **** that looks really challenging and really fun.

Today was…umm…interesting, but I’m not looking forward to the slushy mess that'll probably be around for the rest of the week.

whoosh! 02-13-06 06:54 PM

thanks to every street in s. philadelphia being a glacier, i have two 4"x4" bruises on both buttcheeks from the inevitable "fall twice for every one block" syndrome.

i hate snow. and stupid fat little snow-ball throwing goombah children.
