petition for bicycle overlord (rant warning)

sometimes i think bicycling needs a benevolent overlord to make universal sizes, threads, etc. so everything works with everything. i, myself, would be much happier right now.

so the campy seatpost came in last night. excitement! but, of course, it doesn't fit the slick vintage selle italia turbo saddle i have. the rails on the saddle are just a few mm too big. (the saddle matches the bike perfectly too, has the original $33.95 price sticker...) so now i have to find another saddle which will fit when i'm quite happy with the one i have. i mean, seriously, what a downer.

okay, i feel a little better now.

Pinch the rails together, make it fit, and call yourself the overlord

If it's only a few mm you can make it fit.

I could never see myself ditching a saddle I like because of the brand of a hunk of tubing, but to each his own. But yeah, what other people said, get yourself a vice and some big adjustables (not pliers) and make the magic happen.

In extremely rare occurances, certain Selle Italia saddles have been known to spontaneously combust when force is applied to the rails using a vice.

man I hear you...
I spent the last week engineering an adaptor for my 1" threadless fork (which is super cool and I want to install on my new Marinoni track frame), to fit in my crazy expensive Chris King headset. I've made a carbon fiber sleeve that fits over the steerer so that it converts it to 1 1/8". Of course this means I need a new stem...and so it goes.
