Favorite Things
So, there's always plenty to ***** about. There's always some stupid @$$hole who can't drive, some goof@$$ mother who doesn't know her ______ from a hole in the ground . . . and I love you all for telling it like it is. Even when I don't agree with you all, FG/SS is always honest (even if it's sometimes cruel). A ways back, there was a thread about the things in your life that are positive . . . the things that make you smile and that make you and your bike happy. It's cold. It's raining. It's going to sleet tonight. And snow tomorrow. And Chicago is grey. Or gray. But it is. And so, I propose an uplifting thread . . .
My favorite things . . . 1. Chicks in Shants (nice calves . . . ) 2. Track geometry 3. Good spin -- when your legs have a mind and a rythm of their own and you can just watch the ground under your wheels slide by 4. Cold beer (doesn't matter what kind, so long as it's cheap -- it actually tastes better when it's free) 5. Drivetrain/BB overhaul -- a good CD, a couple beers, taking apart the bike and putting it back together, clean, running smooth 6. That first day of real warm spring, when you lift your face and the sun actually warms it (and the sting in the wind, and the bite of snow and ice are gone until next December) Shout it out. What keeps you going on a bad day? |
afterwork quickies with the lady.
muscle pain heinekin slow cruising through stopped traffic on the way home. long skids shiny new bike parts. mid 50's weather |
1. compleating a bike build
2. bumping in to a friendly cyclist on the road 3. droping the guy that was an ass to you 4. getting through when all the cars are standing still 5. beautiful weather 6. riding with friends 7. beer rides 8. long trips for allycats in other cities |
1. Decades-old bikes that are still on the road.
2. Miller High Life. 3. King cake. |

king cake = cake eaten in and around new orleans before mardi gras with a little plastic baby inside, whomever finds the plastic baby gets luck for a year (i think my new orleans mythology is up to snuff, someone please correct me if i'm mistaken).
list of awesomeness: -codeine (the band and the pill/cough syrup) -gloves when its cold -morrissey -egon schiele nudes -leaving comical ebay feedback for people -girlfriends who arrive by plane and are happy to take a train from the airport and walk to my apartment alone even though its cold out. -track bikes -coffee and crimpshrine |
1. Watching an increasingly pregnant wife try to ride a bike.
2. Riding for 3 blocks rather than walking, just cause its more fun. 3. Massive layers of clothing on bitter cold rides. 4. Living vicariously through bikeforums when its 50 degrees outside and I'm stuck inside working... Wait, that's not really a favorite. Edit-

I'm so freakin lonely. I want a muscled-up pregnant wife for quickies. I'd wash her hair in inexpensive beer, eat pastry with toys inside, then we'd laugh and laugh at the funny items on ebay. We would. But I'd encourage her to keep off the codeine. I might even hide that but she'd understand.

That makes my ****ing afternoon. No ****. That was great. This is why I post sappy **** like this every once in a while -- because you all are so warped that your sense of humor inevitably bends somebody's melancholy around until it's funnier than it could have ever been on its own. Rock out Pope. |

My wife
Knowing that when its time to clock out, its bike riding time. Beer, beer, and beer. Coming up with reason to justify getting a newer bike - Be it mess up one of my current bikes, or ditch in the river.... Hockey Edit: forgot to add Some good tamales. Especially from the guy or girl that comes into the office or bar yelling "Tamales, Tacos!!" Always found selling them out of an igloo for $4-6 a dozen. The spicier the better!!!!!

here's what made my day today:
(free) cold PBR after work flirting with my favorite cute waitress while i drank it 70+ degrees in the middle of January when i left work checking my email and finding out my new Freight bag will be here sometime next week |
all time top five? Thats what I will keep it to
1. catching all the green lights riding fast with the wind, or the slow cruise through stopped traffic 2. listening to rain on the roof while laying in bed 3. Knowing the photograph I just took was the "One" of the entire shoot before I even develop the film 4. A good cup of bottomless coffee over breakfast with someone i can easily carry on a conversation with 5. Riding snake runs in Vancouver on my BMX bike. Probably the best time I have ever had I my bikes. In the woods, quiet, on school days with no one else but the two people who traveled the 6300 miles to complete that trip. I have really taking a liking to calmly riding to the start of the Tour Da Chicago sunday mornings with no traffic getting really excited to kick my own ass. |

I liked this better the first time...when it was called the "Giving Thanks" thread. Or whatever it was called. Idiots.
God, I'm so lonely and bitter. |
1. getting a bike put back together after it's been in pieces for far too long.
2. my girlfriend. 3. FINALLY getting all of my sponsors set up for the relay i'm throwing. 4. chimay blue 5. anything involving calamata olives, roma tomatoes, and tons of garlic. 6. having my boss tell me to sleep in. 7. spending my tax return on completely frivolous crap. (parachute men and 4 square balls) 8. warmer weather 9. new tyres - hell, new anything 10. planning road trips. (mid march - keep an eye out for me in milwaukee and st louis.) i'm cutting myself off at 10 because i could go on for hours. |
- my girlfriend crabbing at me for riding too fast (this means she is riding with me :D )
- getting to/from work without putting a foot down - watching the TDF at the Summit and riding home a little tipsy and a little too fast - biking home from playing a rock show late at night (flame away) - having a view of my bike from my desk at work - finally paying off my debt because I'm forcing myself to do it before I get a new bike - washing the funk off of a cycling cap - clean drivetrain! - answering silly questions about my fixed bike on group rides |
guinness
newly inflated tires riding around phillys city hall girls with locs (of the dreadful kind) when your riding between two lanes of cars stopped by a red light. you see the lights about to change. you wonder if you can make it between those two cars in the front, then you do, you break free and fly through the empy intersection and for a moment or two, before all the cars stuck at the red catch you, you own that street, sit up from your hunched position and take in some air. |
