Big Bill Clinton, and Little Lance Armstrong are coming to Van(couver) to speak to you about motivation.... if you've got $400 to burn.

As good a philanthroper as Lance is for cancer - what has he done for the masses riding on the road.

We all understand the gap in 'understanding' (respect) between 2 wheels and 4 - so who better to advocate understanding than Lance.

So.

Im going to be outside 999 Canada Place on March 10 - riding the rollers - taking up a carspace - to promote awareness that the next cyclist you see ahead of you just may be the next 'Lance'...

watch this space.

cool...publicity stunts like that are a good idea. maybe it should be done in other cities, too.

I thought it was all valet parking in front of Canada Place?

great idea, though I'd think an event such as this would have a restricted access parking lot or like lyledriver said, valet parking.

valet doesn't usually mean car, and i'm sure you can fight this legally with a nice pushy lawyer. valet simply means "pay to have your vehicle parked". if you are paying the extra $100, they should keep your ride right up front. even if your ride is a bike on rollers.

What I was implying was that the entire area in front of the Convention Centre/Hotel is a big pickup/drop off staging area for taxis, SUVs and Limos. I worked there as a Valet in 1999. It may be easier for Andy to set up the rollers (and some sort of signage?) on the sidewalk than it would be to do it in the staging area.

please note: i know nothing of this location at all so i cant really guage anything decent as a helpful reply, but i do think that parking on the sidewalk is a bad idea. you'd be more likely seen as a protestor or something silly like that, and you'd probably be forcibly removed. at least parking in a "parking spot" even though you are not a car, you'd have some sort of right to be there. cars can pay for parking valet, why not a bike on rollers? they'd for sure make a stink about blocking a sidewalk before they asked someone who paid for a valet ticket to leave, ya know? safer bet.

firstly.

there is 3 commercial parking spaces outside 999 - and i cant see any problem with setting up on the sidewalk (footpath).

Its at brainstorm level - but itll happen.

riding the rollers for 2 hours is no joke.

Ironically a chap from The Province (local rag) wanted me to hang my bike longer so he could get a photopgrapher along to use it in the paper - i said why not just pay me for what I took - 'um, arrr, ummmm'
