i have a choice between non-machined Black 36H aeroheads or non machined ORANGE deep v's. i've done a quick search but to no avail. anyone care to help me compare? and if someone has pictures of hte ORANGE deep v's, that'd be rad if you could post.

Does the color scheme of your bike play any role in deciding?

Overall strength on the DV would be better; at the cost of weight gain. ... you can also get away a lower spoke count on the deep V when used with a high flange hub, making the weight diff. sort of meaningless ... outside of that I think the rest would be aesthetic. One other thing, DEEP V's are more subject to nasty cross winds, becareful if you go no hands on a windy day; not that it's happened to me or anything ... heh hem.

how heavy are you? if you're relatively lightweight then the aeroheads should be great. I personally don't like the look of deepVs but thats a smaller part of my decision to go with the aeroheads for my wheels. I'm a smaller guys so I think it's excessive to go with deepVs weight gains unless you want the style points, which I think are minus.

i have to roll with a 36H b/c that is what hub i have. i have a (not dark) grey powdercoated frame with silver & black components.
i'm really light and don't care that much about weight.

If your really light then I'd say go with aeroheads. You already have 36 so you won't need the extra thickness. DeepV in the wind would suck, especially if you're light.

Well, aesthetically you could go either way.
I have Deep Vs on both my bikes and I love them.
I haven't noticed the wind issues that Wangster mentioned, but I'm not so much on the lighter side.
Deep Vs might be overkill for you, but who cares I guess.
Both are very nice rims and you wont be disappointed in either.

i had a set of deep Vs that i liked well enough, but they were uncomfortably stiff when compared to more traditional boxy rims. the wind issue also bugged me. in nyc, you're never far from water, which can mean cross winds at every intersection.

i also wasn't too hot on the V look. just kind of looks cheap.

and be careful when buying crazy colored rims. they may match your bike just fine, but you might get sick of looking at orange wheels in a year or so, and resale will be a bit tougher, if you ever want to go that route. chrome (and black, i suppose) never gets old.

Aeroheads because you're not heavy. Deep vs are heavy and suck in crosswinds, although they're bombproof, which is nice when you weigh more...

Also, I agree with brunning about colored rims.

i'm just getting the frame.
late 70's peugot track frame. phil BB, campy headset. front wheel is from a fuji track wheel that fuji sent my shop by accident, rear wheel will be a Phil hub built probably on the aeros. sugino 75 cranks, nitto drops, and a generic stem.

I have the Areoheads and I like them very much. I'm 210 lbs and they have no problem holding my weight. On a 60 mile ride this past weekend it was pretty windy at times and even with the Areoheads I could feel the crosswinds pushing my front wheel.A little uncomforting. With the Deep V's I guess it would of been worse.

Even if you're heavy. My CXP33's blow me all over the place in a strong crosswind.

i think the crosswind issue is exaggerated. i've ridden through 25mph crosswinds and it's not that bad. it's a small tradeoff for having peace of mind after slamming into a gnarly pothole or jumping off a curb. the weight difference is negligible, especially for those who carry bags or chain locks when riding. laced to iro high flanges they're stiff, but not overly so, and on smooth roads they're like butter.

i just got a black set of non machined areoheads and they look so nice. im over the whole deep v thing im sure there great and all, but to me there just overkill.

yeah, i think no matter what if you're riding in strong winds you're going to be rather miserable. i love the deep Vs, largely because i know that they are super durable. sure, i may not never need them to be, and maybe i could have gotten aeroheads and been fine, but there's a lot to be said for the elimination of worry.

and ORANGE? sign me up. oh, wait, these were never being offered to me, were they...

i say get the orange deep Vs and never look back. any issues with crosswinds will just inspire you to get where you're going faster.

i have pink aeroheads on pink phils. i love 'em. for some reason, the machining on them tends to make me not sicken of the color.

i have a set of green deepv's laced to black phils coming from marcus maybe this week. i guess i'll be able to compare in a couple of days.

i'm super-light and pretty tall and tend to notice cross-wind problems regardless of what wheels/bike i ride. i can't imagine that deepv's would be drastically more susceptible to cross-winds than aeroheads. i guess i'll be able to post more on that soon though.

i've had both Aeroheads and Deep-V's.
If you are not heavy I would go with the Aeroheads. They are great rims and won't go out of true easily
also if you decide to get Deep V's don't ride no handed with cross winds it'll be likely that you'll fall over
