Help me find cranks?
What I'd really like is something that is all of the following:
square taper (107mm phil bb), 175mm (+/-5mm), <= 104 BCD, forged, and black (preferably) The deal is my Dimension CX cranks don't really have the clearance on my frame (KM). There's < 1mm between the outer edge of the spider flange and the chainstay. They're 110 BCD, and that's a wee too big for my BB and frame. They rubbed/scratched the chainstay until I moved the whole BB over a couple mm. I'd like my BB more centered, and I'd like more than 1mm of clearance between crank arm/spider and chainstay. Anyone have ideas (brand, retailer, etc)? Thanks |
um... what kind of riding do you do? what's your price range? there are lots of cranks out there. you're gonna have to start us off by narrowing down the field of possibilities
|
do they have to be 175mm. +- 5mm. 165 might eliminate chainstay rub....
|
riding - lots.
My monkey is SS/fixed and sees daily onroad commuting, with occasional stairs/drops thrown in. It gets offroad on technical XC. Durability is more of a goal than saving weight. I'm not too concerned about cost. |
175 is ideal for me and my occasional low speed standing offroad grinds. It also helps me when I need to pull myself up a step or somesuch with my trailing leg - and even for levering up on the front crank. 170 and 180 would be ok, but 175 feels rightest.
It's the end of the spider flange that rubs, not the crank arm. |
well if the spider flange is rubbing you might want to look for cranks with a small BCD so the spider arms are shorter, thus eliminating that problem at least...
|
That's why he's asking for 104bcd?

encore:
square taper (107mm phil bb), 175mm (+/-5mm), 94 or 104 BCD, forged, and black (preferably) |
I think the problem is that maybe your BB axle its too short... why get new cranks if the problem is the BB??? The bb is italian or english? What frame do u have?
I been reading and apparently that set of cracks uses a 109 bb not a 107... no wonder u have clearence problems. This is the set of cranks, right? "Dimension/Bulletproof single-speed crank arms $40.00, 110 bcd, 165mm or 170mm length, silver or black alloy, 3/32" chainrings only, 38-tooth to 48-tooth available, use 109mm BB, Taiwan." Hmm who doing 109's now? Will be hard to find. a 110 will work too... Hmm... maybe in this case it is posible to mix jis with iso... well.. resuming.. get a longer BB it will easier to find that the cranks u want, besides... do u have money to cast them?? Cya :) |
i guess it's your call, but i'd use 170mm or 172.5, just cuz....well, toe overlap and pedal strike. really, i wouldn't go longer than 172.5. you think it'll be okay with longer cranks?
|
Phill wood has the BB u need...get a longer one, that all u have to do.
http://www.philwood.com/pproducts.htm go to the bottom brackets section, they have 108 and 110's If money isn't an issue get campy/shimano/suginos/miche stuff in first place... not those cheap ass 40 bucks cranks u have there cya :p |
