when was this? how old is he now? i can't imagine that arm motion helping your balance any, which is crutial for high speeds.
if it WAS the fastest bicycle that record is long gone now by recumbent bikes with fiberglass shells that are going 70+ mph.

Bikes: trek 330 (ss), schwinn caliente, schwinn cruiser, a plethora of bike parts that could probably make another bike
it's hideous and doesn't look like it works too easily - but that's not what intrigued me. his whole story was fascinating, internet research entertainment pour moi

The highest speed ever achieved on a bicycle is 268.831 km/h (167.043 mph), by Fred Rompelberg (The Netherlands) at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA, on October 3, 1995. His record attempt was greatly assisted by the slipstream from his lead vehicle. Fred has been cycling professionally for nearly 30 years and during that time has held 11 world records.

That sketchy POS is on a par with the freak that this old spanish guy made. It was discussed here, too. The old man claimed the bike can do 95kph Yeah, right. I guess it can, on a steep downhill where a roadbike does 110.

I bet that being in China that fellow would be entirely unaware of the psuedo bike mechanic/inventor that's been riding around downtown Houston for the past 20 years on a bike with an identical propulsion system / geometry as his own. I don't think the guy in Houston was first either, there have been many similar designs involving flywheels and elastic bands on freewheels. The Houston guy has several different contraptions. My favourite is one where he steers only by leaning, his legs are extended to the front hub and "pedaling" back and forth while his arms match the motion resulting in an "S" shaped movement that drives the propulsion system, a front wheel drive flywheel attached directly to the chainrings, chains are attached to elastic bands that attach to the pedals....He has another with only his arms atcivating the drive in the same manner, but his feet are free to steer the front wheel from pegs on the hub, still front wheel drive.
