Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? The RS Signature II in brown/tan. Those look sharp as anything. Exactly what I'm looking for, but I can't find them ANYWHERE. Someone help me out.

Mine have lasted me two years (but are about to die). The stock footbeds are crap, but otherwise, very solid.

if you're going for performance (stiffness, power transfer)
don't get anything with a tread. i can't quite figure out what
onelesscar meant with the "roadie style" comment. those are clearly
mtn bike shoes. mtn bike shoes (ones with tread) are inherently more flexible
than a road shoe. mtn bike shoes are made to get the best of two worlds: riding
(at higher rpm's than road/track usually) and getting off the bike and running.
to get this they're much more flexible than a road shoe. so yeah.
i guess this doesn't really matter as you're talking about wanting a cool looking
shoe that's good for riding about town.

i say use your clipless with some proper road shoes for the track and hard rides
and use regular clips and straps with whatever shoes for riding around.
a pedal wrench is about $5.

with 'roadie style' just ment how they looked. yeah they are mtn bike shoes and are quite flexible, but have a stiff sole too. and they are diadora chili's 04 model. shop where i work had em spare and dirt cheap/ but i would get sidi's if i had the money.

louis garneau makes some nice shoes as well. i rock the ergoeco, which look a lot better in person than they do on the website.

if, like me, you're vegan, you should note that their touring shoes are leather. i didn't note this until it was too late, but i'm very happy with the shoes all the same.

I have a pair of Cannondale MC610s mountain shoes that I got for about $30 on sierra trading post. Also have a pair of Lake MX160s that I got on closeout at nashbar for $10! ($15 with shipping/tax)

I wear the Cannondales a lot more -- they look more like "normal" shoes and the cleats are almost completed inside the rubbers of the soles.

PS: I have never paid more than $40 for cycling shoes (or any shoes for that matter).
