help with chainring sizes... ?
I need to buy a 50t chainring for my Mercier track bike.. it currently has the highest quality ebay truvativ crank-set and stock 48t chainring available...
I have been looking on ebizzle and other sites and i've come across plenty of matches but I'm afraid of buying the wrong size chainring..... The chainring from my roadbike-FG conversion is not the same size as on the truvativ crank.. So let me get to the damn question: What size is the truvativ track chainring ? Thanks ! |
By size do you mean BCD?
If so, I'd assume it's 130bcd. |

For a typical five-hole ring, measure two neighboring holes from center-to-center and multiply the distance by 1.7 to get the BCD of the chainring. |
i'm not 100% sure, but i'd guess the bcd is 130.
|
To save you of some of the hard, hard work, just make the measurement seen above. If it comes out to about 76.4mm (3.01 inches), you have a 130mm BCD.

This crankset is a curse.
It is a 130 bcd. Just try and find a 50 t chainring in 1/8 size for less than $ 100. The only one I've found is the Shimano DuraAce unit... f-ing ripoff. They've got dozens of 144bcd version of it for under $ 50 new everywhere !!!!!!!! DAYUM !!!!!!!! Dubya, help me out on this one willya ! |
dubya ain't helped nothin' (unless you're filthy stinkin' rich already).
that said, DA isn't bad. both as discordance axis and dura-ace. anyway, i don't know what price you've found it for, but i don't know what choice you have, other than to stick with 48t till you can afford the 50t. |
they are over $ 100 just about everywhere.

Why not just get a cog with one more tooth. They are cheaper than a chainring.
|
eh, (a cog with 1 less tooth).
either they shank you with the cost of a crankset that's 144bcd (sugino 75, campy), or they get you with the cost of the chainring.. |
Suck it up and buy a 3/32" chainring. Runs quiet if you've got a good chainline.

I tried a 14t and it was too much gear for me.
I could barely move the bike... (I can barely move it as it is lol). Anyway, I was looking at the chainring that came with the truvativ crankset and I noticed that it is not even a track chainring.. is a regular 3/32 size. Anyway, if I'm going to bother with getting a bigger chainring, I'm going to get the right size. Sheesh. |
For 130 mm. bolt circle pattern cranks:
* Spécialités TA Alize Piste 1/8" + 40, 42, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52 - $49.50 * Stronglight Track 1/8" + 48 - $47.50 * SUGINO 130J 3/32" + 44, 46, 48, 50 - $32.50 http://businesscycles.com/trcomp.htm#chainrings |
