I've Been Called Out

Ha, this is pretty amazing.

Sounds like that guy who wasn't cool in high school so they are bitter and cynical about everything the cool kids did or liked.

TRaffic Jammer 03-15-06 09:03 AM

I swear culture vulture is an An'R plug for a record label....what a funny page.

blsecres 03-15-06 09:39 AM

It's really strange seeing stuff like this coming out of North Carolina. 'Satire' like this from NYC, Boston or Chicago, OK, but Charlotte? When has anything culture or trend-wise been produced there as opposed to just consumed? It's like someone from the aforementioned cities complaining about all the kids wearing motocross clothes or setting up their SUVs to go offroading.

That's funny, there's a picture of Wes' visit down to Houston on there, too. Root Memorial square.

hyperRevue 03-15-06 09:49 AM

Has anyone else on here made a top 8 picture?

"I LOVE the bicycle I started riding 2 months ago, getting "inked" (tattoos define me), anarchy, shopping at Hot Topic, trends, anti-fashion (I shop at thrift stores because it's culturally acceptable and it pisses off my affluent parents, not because I can't afford better), eating out of dumpsters (again, not because I can't afford food but because being lazy and not earning a wage is so revolutionary -- eating out of the Man's dumpster is so edgy).
Music Anything you haven't heard of. That makes me mysterious and therefore stylish.
"

LOL!!!

hyperRevue 03-15-06 01:15 PM

I really want people to see this, so I'm going to bump my own thread.

The fact that someone took the time to create that profile is really sad.

Also, I love the regurgitated arguments against veganism that every vegan/vegetarian has heard a million times.

morbot 03-15-06 01:33 PM

if you dont understand something, criticize it by making generalizations based in misunderstandings!

though it is sorta true though. riding fixed gear bikes, being a vegan, and being an anarchist dont have anything to do with each other, but there's a strong connection between them. TREND CITY. but at the same time, what's so bad about a trend? as long as you're not undermining your individuality (if that's even possible), i dont see what is.

dav 03-15-06 01:58 PM

i know the guy with his feet on his wheel in front of the hummer in his pictures.

Robert Smith 03-15-06 02:07 PM

Sof5000 and my buddy Tom made the top 8. Hmmm...If Wes put more pics in his myspace, maybe I could have made a top 8 showing.

the pope 03-15-06 05:17 PM

That Fabian mojo is rolling right back this way, you tools.

Griffin 03-15-06 05:29 PM

haha! i know a kid on there the one with the pink campy hat in front of the hummer!

aeser 03-15-06 06:02 PM

haha
"1. Most any track or road bike, remove the gears if there are any, remove the brakes if any, make the rear cog fixed by any means necessary. "Freewheels for are loosers!!"

2. Get a pair of pants, any pants, and cut them off at half calf. Now, roll them up to your knees! You're "in."

3. Buy a cycling cap (preferrably a black one) and wash it several hundred times. Put it on your head. Check!

4. Chucks are the footwear of choice if you aren't riding clipless pedals. Toe clips are SO retro, though and highly recommended to the "hard core."

5. Run, don't walk, to your local tattoo artist and run your credit card up to it's limit with "ink!" This one is very important if you want to be part of this unique revolution.

6. Listen to music that makes you feel you have to wear a ratty black t-shirt everywhere you go.

7. Get a messenger bag. This one is also very important, although actually BEING a messenger isn't.

8. Never, ever, under any circumstance, wear a helmet. Helmets are for people that like life and want to continue living it!! You are NOT one of these people, are you?

9. Stop eating meat!! Unless of course it's free. All principle and values are out the window if you don't have to pay for something.

10. Compromise your integrity in the name of "anarchy." It's all the rage.

11. Be straightedge but only if you aren't of age or know anyone that will buy you alcohol. Once you become of legal drinking age, become a raging alcoholic. Just another in a long line of fallen revolutionaries.

Well, that just about covers it. Once you check off this list, you, too can be yet ANOTHER kid on a track bike -- so unique, so edgy. "

aside from wearing a cycling cap and being an anarchist and having tattoos i'd think this was written specificly about me.

it is funny however. and i stopped caring a long time ago if my lifestyle was considered "poser" by people or not, i tend to only worry about things that actually matter at all now. it is always funny to see people trying to cling to subculture credibility like their lives depended on it though.
