Spring Tire Thread

Time to build up a bike and pick up some new tires. What's everyone liking these days in moderately priced (around $30 but the cheaper the better) tires? Gatorskins, Rubinos? Any particulary good deals on your favs?

i've been riding a schwalbe blizzard on my rear wheel for a while. it was an accidental find, has a kevlar belt, cost me somewhere in the twenties, and has lasted much lonver than my prior tire, a cheapie nashbar kevlar-belted dealie.

I dont know about deals, but I picked up a pair of the soma everwear tires when I got new wheels and I realy like them, just wanted to say it out load. Every week I clean them and pull out all the little pieces of glass. They are only 100psi but I have been riding for 4 months on them and no flats. *knock on wood*

I'm trying out a pair of rivendell's 'ruffy tuffy' tires. They're pretty smooth so far, and 700x27 seems to be about as much tire as I can fit in the rear triangle of that bike.

I'm about to put some 700x32 conti touring tires on. Just to rack up some cool points with you guys I also added a bottle cage and a bell.

i still love my continental grand prix 3000's. they ride fantastic, cost a bit, but i've only had one flat from where I finally skidded through the tire (well all the way through the rubber and half way through the kevlar), and made it about 10 miles on it before flatting after running over some glass with the bare spot.

Gatorskins are what I'm riding. Tough as nails, and not a bad ride. Theyre really fun when its wet out. I hear they wear down kinda fast but so far I'm doing ok.

i run the pasela TG's on my singlespeed commuter and they are pretty freakin awesome so far. a nicer more supple ride than the conti top-tourer's they replaced.

my vanity prevents me from liking them as much as i should though due to them ugly tan sidewalls... i most likely will try some t-serv's (apparently pretty much the same but all black) next but i won't retire these till i use them up. that could be a while since they appear to wear real well.

currently,on my fixed, i am real excited to saw through the pile of half-used tires i have in my garage while skidding/skipping like a fool through the spring and summer (just got the hang of it, now i can't get enough). i already killed one vederstein in about a month...

i ain't buyin no nice new tires for that bike till i stop having so much fun abusing them.

I have a set on one of my bikes. For a few months I had absolutely no problems with them, then suddenly about 20 flats in the last two months. Properly inflated, properly installed, etc. Bits of glass and debris that haven't touched other tires seem to be going right through these. I'll keep them on a bit longer and see how things go once the weather clears up and there's less trash in the streets.

The 26" paselas were total flat magnets. Also, the raised center ridge made me unhappy.

I'm liking mine too. I hope they last through the summer. Not many miles on them yet.

Sadly I'm thinking that Nokians might be neccessary for spring here

Meh. I have Fortessas, and I got a slash on the rear that went through to the casing after about a week of riding. They are a very smooth ride though.

The Michelin Ironmans I got for my road bike seem to be holding up a little better.

Any one like the Vredestein Volante SE's or one of the many Vittoria Rubinos (which ones?)?

I'm on a pair of Vittoria Zaffiros. I've got about 200 miles on them and they've treated me great. A few miles through fresh snowpack scours them clean to a bright neon red again after they acquire a gray stripe from riding on roads crusted with dried salt and grime.

I bought a pair of Vittoria Tecno Pros from chucksbikes.com on closeout for $18ea. Thus far, they have held up very well. I like that they're gumwalled.

Hell ya I have riden these tires for four years and have had 1 flat, darn chicago bridges.
The new design is more rounded than the previous models
They make that zippy sound when you skid.

I went through 3 pasela tg's. First one died from forming a giant bulge in the sidewall (while on tour - had a spare with me). Much like r-dub, second and third died horrible flat deaths, where I get ~1-2 flats a day. Never again.

I just bought some Tufo CS-33 Specials (tubular clinchers). I'll let you guys know how they perform in a couple of weeks.

i've had the opposite experience with the panarancer pasela tourguards. i rode 750 miles cross-country on them and got ZERO flats.

on my track bike i use gatorskins, but when they die, i'm getting more paselas.

just picked up some vrettisin SE's:

can't wait to try 'em out. but i've been riding Conti Gator-K's that have
been incredibly tough... hardly ever get flats, skid all the time, going on 2 years.
