Singlespeed pics?
Does anyone have a picture of a singlespeed with bullhorn bars? I'm doing a conversion and i'm trying to get a feel for what it will look like. Most of the bikes on the SS/Fixie photo thread are track bikes so i dont get to see what it looks like with brake levers on. Plus it has 317 pages and I don't have a spare 5 hours to look at all the pics. Thanks!

25 seconds for not what he's asking for, yes!
is the picture not turning up well on my screen, or is that a track frame with no brakes and a multi-speed freewheel (the ol' shorten the chain trick)?
haha.. 25 seconds for.. something without a brake. maybe the extra 35 would have made the difference.
apart from being unable to see that one part of the picture clearly, that IS a goddamn nice bike, though....those angles...oooooohhhhh....yummmmm....

/\ /\ /\ coaster brake, right?

at the time the photo was taken, yes. That bike was first a single speed, then a fixedgear, then a coasterbrake (which I HATED, and it only lasted a few days), then back to fixed again. Then I sold it.

i just remember that bike from the "crap conversion fixation" thread. i do think it's nice enough. maybe not "bling", but i'd sure ride the crap out of it.
edit: read your reply. meh, looks like you had a good time and it's someone else's turn now. |
Yea, I rocked the **** out of that thing for about six months. It was fun, but sketchy. I was really happy to get rid of that thing, but a the same time.... It was solid.
What did you hate about the coaster brake
I just put this up today. Probably not exactly what you were looking for, though.

The worst part was being at a stop light, my foot would be in a bad position, but the coasterbreak would force me to lift up the backwheel and make a full rotation rather then just moving it back a little bit. It was all the bs of a fixed gear with all the bs of a singlspeed. When I put it on I thought it'd be the best of both worlds, but no, it was the worst. Not enough control, and the bike just didn't have that.... for lack of a better term, flow.... that is so essential in a good ride to me. Coasterbrakes have a feeling of rigidity that I do not enjoy.

Almost forgot about this absurd thing I did a couple of years ago, it's in the show your fixie/ss thread somewhere. Gave it to my brother for his birthday, thank God. He's still alive and even talks to me once in a while.

Whats the deal with the chain? 2 chain tensioners?
Nah, ghost chainring. Just cram a chainring back as far you can to take up the tension, it just spins in place. Kind of an inelegant way to get around the vertical dropout problem. It didn't work so well with a fixed gear setup, so I set it up later with a combo that worked perfect for the chain stay length.
ghost ring!

hey, that frame rva biker put up...anyone know anything more about it? for starters, i can't even tell if it says "grebart" or "grebari". it's puuuurty, though.
cool, i'll keep my out for those. the next frame i get will most likely be either one of those or a cannondale. cannondale track frames are way nice.
that's the only grebart I've ever seen. these chubb hubs are interesting (and faulty I've heard) and before my time. anyone know exactly what happened with those? when they were made?
man, what a threadjack. |
