Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

1" Threaded headset- Tange, Shimano, Campy?

Just picked up a sweet, old, lugged Italian frame (Italvega). Need a 1" threaded headset and unfortunately Bicycle Station only had some ugly, black, Ritchey stuff. So it looks like I need to mail order or ebay either a Tange Levin (unsealed, sorta ugly shiny chrome about $20), Shimano 600 (sealed, nicer more matted finish, about $30) or spring for a Campy Chorus (unsealed and beautiful around $50). I was trying to keep the thing mostly Italian but it's already got some Sugino Mighty's and a Shimano bb. However the front end is all Cinelli thus far. Is the Campy worth $50? Is the sealed Shimano much better than the unsealed Tange? Don't both suggesting a Chris King, I'm one of those people who things even the finest headset known to man isn't worth over $50. The Campy would be as far as I'm willing to stretch. Other suggestions?

Look for an older used Campy one on ebay. Much prettier.

Lets see your Italvega (I've owned two).

If you don't care about colour too much, Nashbar has a decent sealed 1" threaded headset for around $13.99. It's black though.
