anyone taken the Hiawatha train from CHI <> MKE? pretty good deal at $40 r/t, getting me into mke at 10:30... but in my experience Amtrak runs late, meaning i would be cutting it close for the registration.. anyone have a personal account?

I have used this alot, and have never had any probs with it running late. The only things to consider is the S-L-O-W bike packaging guy in the basement/labrynth of the CHI station, the S-L-O-W bike pickup guy at the MKE station, and the $10 for the bike box ( which you can try to stash behind the dumpsters out back and re-use for the trip home). Good news is that Amtrak is mere minutes from the race registration. Also, make sure the train you want has a baggage(bike) option. Some don't, and I think that there are only two a day on weekends.g'luck

it actually wasn't that bad, it probably looked gnarly though. i was riding with 2two others, bringing up the rear. they both were able to dodge, but there was just not enough room for me to get around. the guy i hit was pretty small, i think he went down pretty hard. he seemed alright, so we just left. im just glad that door wasnt glass.

yeah, the start at the top of the hill was pretty crazy, with groups taking intersections in both directions at speed. the other guy who got into that wreck with matt was my co-worker at the time, mike. we both were passed out on the ride back to chi, and i got yelled at by his fiancee when he got dropped off. i was standing there, feeling like ****, holding his totally trashed serotta, and we were both getting completely verbally abused. our solution was to have a gin and tonic (unfortunately, mostly gin) and then i walked home, and got yelled at again.

it was all pretty ridiculous.
