"laces out dan" - ray finkle.

"spokes out dude" - radial lacing.

I have a radially laced front wheel and have broken 4 spokes in the past 10 months or so and they have all broken at the spoke heads....so I vote for spoke heads out to minimize the amount of stress put on the spoke heads....mine is laced with the spoke heads out though

anyone who knocks radial lacing should take a peek at my wheel set. radial front, radial non-drive in back. had the set for 5 or 6 years, not a single blip out of true. prior owner had it for about that long, never needed a true as well.

so, what you're saying is, spoke heads out. Even though it does not work.

whoa, dont jump to conclusions. if you conclude that it doesnt work based on his single experience, then you have to cancel that out due to my single experience where they have worked.

his spokes may have failed for any number of reasons. bad build, botched build, improper or lack of maintenance, wrong spoke choice, etc etc etc.

no, I was merely summarizing his post in a sarcastic tone.

I like radially laced wheels.

baxtefer 03-23-06 03:13 PM

isn't it something like this...

heads in = marginally stiffer
heads out = marginally more durable
3x = appreciably stiffer + durable

...i'm not sure why they have broken but they have and mostly right after I bought the wheels as of recently I haven't had any problems....I like radial laced wheels too...I just think that the wheels weren't tensioned properly and that is why they broke
