the great eddie b sez. . .
that ridin' a fixed gear 65 km is equal to ridin' a gear 100 km fitnesswise all things bein' equal. :D :) ya'll prolly knew that or somethin' like that cause it makes intuitive sense. Edward Borysewicz that is. i was readin' his classic book on racin' last night and that's where he says it in no uncertain terms. in fact, eddie b rarely says anything in uncertain terms. even if yer not into racin', his book is great. :) :)

well yeah I guess I can buy that. it menas you
must sustain super high cadence for some of the ride and with gears many choose not to spin so fast this builds huge lung and heart capacity and not so much leg muscle. for fitness...haveta agree |
also give fixed riders more time to drink pabst and discuss anarchy! :D :)

I have found that riding the track bike (48x16) on rides and commuting has built my leg stregth and ability to push large gears, (my spin is good too, but I've the rollers to thank for that ;) ). But my long distance fitness and core stregth have suffered. The fact that school is kicking my arse might also have something to do with lower the ideal fitness level.
Riding fixed definitely keeps your legs in decent shape though... |

totally thinking wrong eddie b. 65 km and 1 year go hand in hand (and he actually rides more than most on this forum) ;) |

Riding fixed definitely keeps your legs in decent shape though... it's helped build up my leg strength but my long distance fitness and core strength haven't suffered my secret: I actually ride 'long distance[s]' yeah p.s. beer/grocery runs don't count |
