I just got back from my first test ride with my new 38cm Nitto 021's. They are so rediculously perfect, I don't know where to begin...

the flats on the tops are about 3.5" in either direction with my thomson elite stem. enough for a hand.

however the angled shoulders are so comfortable to ride on that i never really gripped the flats like i was used to on my road drops.

the drops of the bars are perfect for skidding, it's amazing how much farther forward i can put my weight. just low enough for a great aero position, without the same strain as a deep drop. gets me as low as i ever need to be in the city.

but by far my favorite parts are the ends. it puts me in the perfect position for hauling ass and climbing. way way more comfortable than drops. i'm guessing the 38cm bars have a shorter reach than their larger counterparts.

even at 38cm, it's not cramped in any way.

by far the best set of bars i've ever had the pleasure to use. i'm so psyched. :D

I like my 42cm ones. They're about as wide as my shoulders (a little narrower I think), so I suppose that's good. But maybe if I had the 38cm ones I wouldn't have scratched that car today....

It looks like they shortened up the flat spot that the stem clamps on to, and steepened the shoulders in order to get them narrower. Looks sharp, glad you like 'em.

I've got 42's on one of mine, and I feel like it's a little wide for cruising, but I love it on climbs.

i rock 40cm 21s - they're the jam.

although, since aebike.com sells the 42cm for $34, i'd probably sacrifice the 2cm unless i could find the 40s as cheap:

follow up: i just spent some money

I called them up the other day and ordered my set. Their supplier for these bars is Merry Sales (small distributor), which explains why they've got some sizing options that the rest of us don't normally have access to. If you're looking for any other hard to find items, an email to these guys would likely be worth the effort.

they emailed me back today and said they were out of stock and getting a new shipment on wednesday.

As I mentioned in another thread, the 38cm size is available here at thebikebiz.com. They also carry the 40cm, 42cm and 44cm versions as well. at $43.95 there about $10 more than some retailers sell the 42cm size for. The bars came quickly after I ordered them, in the original nitto wrap.

i just ordered some of that tape in white, after seeing these pics.

it's phenomenal tape - probably the best i've ever used. it's got a super-tacky latex like feel. i expected my hands to get clammy on it at first, but the vent holes do a great job of preventing that. the stitching up the middle adds a lot of strength, making a good tight wrap easier.

that and it looks cool.

How does well does the lever work clamped there? Does it hit the bar?

it worked fine when i tested it out. it doesn't hit the bar.

how would these compare to the nitto bars?

the flats and the ends appear to be longer than a comparable sized nitto 021. they also have a 10mm shallower drop. that ritchey looks like a 42cm bar, which seem to be quite different than the 38cm bars that are pictured above.

the 38s look like there's barely enough room for a set of hands (small ones) on the flats next to the stem, which is where I normally ride...aren't the ends of your hands sloping down slightly? is that even comfortable?

Also, these have grooves for cables. The nittos are grooveless.

if you're concerned about the flats, but like the bars get the 40's. ourys help too. i'll measure the flats, shoulders, drops and ends tonight when i get home from work and post the measurements for reference.
