trend taking it's toll?

I'm starting to see more complete nice track bikes coming up for sale due to people "not riding them enough". start importing old mopeds instead of keirin. the kids have a hard time getting the leather soled shoes in the clips.

That first one belongs to someone on here, right? I know I've seen pics of it before.

anti trends

there are a couple posted in the CL/eBay thread that are much better examples. Such as:

http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/bik/147696432.html

Or any number of Bianchi Pistas found on ebay at any given time. this is not new. I've been watching it happen for more than a year, ad it's probably been going on for much longer than that.

It's not so difficult to fathom either. Someone sees a fixed gear bike with no brakes, and no derailures, and thinks "that looks really hot!" who wouldn't think that. so they buy one, and discover that while it is really pretty they have no real interest in riding it. I can easily see Bianchi Pistas being an impulse buy. I DO wonder how someone can spend a grand or more on a bike they have no idea if they will enjoy riding, but I supppose it all depends on your perspective as to what seems expensive.

Wow, I'm so ****ing tired of labeling anyone who pays good money or has just gotten in to riding a hipster. **** you for being so pretentous and never once doing something becuase it was trendy. I started riding a track bike for probably the same reason everyone here did...It was simple, beautiful, and other people I know did it...does that make me a hipster? Get over yourself....Hating on hipsters is the new white belt.

Hopefully, I will now be able to get more parts nearly new for much less $ which is fine with me.

DoshKel 04-03-06 12:14 PM

People sell their bikes for different reasons.

You know that the "trend" is taking it's toll when you see a complete build on the side of the road abandoned.

shishi 04-03-06 12:19 PM

When the bidding wars end on ebay, the you know it is over.

genericbikedude 04-03-06 12:45 PM

Who cares if people aren't riding track bikes? The impartant thing is that they are riding bikes. Track bikes are silly for most people anyway.

hyperRevue 04-03-06 12:53 PM

Why did you delete your completely justified and accurate comment, Eddie?

This bike belongs to a member here, and he's been trying to sell it periodically since last may or so.

He only rides it on the sidewalk.
