I got FIXED!

1 Attachment(s)
Well rode my new fixie today.... rode it to class and back today (SMART idea to jump into morning traffic with a large backpack with low handlebars when you've NEVER ridden fixed... I lived though) about 18k round trip.

Was a rather slow hard journey, the gearing is a little high for my commute.

HOWEVER. I hit the road in the lycra gear after class, and headed for the velodrome. The gearing kicks ass on the street with no extra load. And was fun for a few laps on the 'drome.

We (me and one of the guys I coach) hit the roads out into the country, and rode some rolling but mostly flat roads. The gearing is PURRFECT for that. I still got one hell of a wake up call workout though!

All in all about 40k today on its maiden day of travel.
So here it is.

80's Avanti Ultra road frame
Original Crankset with outer 52T Biopace ring still attached.
40T Miche chainring.
Original 6spd chain.
15T Miche cog
MICHE Track Hub
Ambrosio Excellence? rim, laced 3x 32spoke
Alex R500 front wheel of my road bike.
Original Speedy MODOLO brake caliper (front)
Bars are half unwrapped, with bar ends taped in just so I could feed the urge to ride!!!!

Poor fella, now you've gone and done it. It's funny how building up a fixie seems so pleasant and innocent at the beginning, and then the thing takes over your life shortly thereafter.

Way to go dude!:)

MacG 04-04-06 07:57 AM

holy poop; you weren't kidding about low bars.

genericbikedude 04-04-06 09:08 AM

I'd rather be fixed than neutered

moki 04-04-06 09:10 AM

welcome to obsession.

Yo, what's that sticker at the very top of the seattube say?

Moximitre 04-04-06 02:07 PM

52-15... damn

NZLcyclist 04-04-06 02:19 PM

I don't use that 52 :p

caloso 04-04-06 03:11 PM

As a new fixed convert, let me welcome you and let you know that this week your legs will be sore. Muscles you didn't know you had.

That's not a gear ratio. THIS is a GEAR RATIO!

(I know Crocodile Dundee was an Aussie, but whatever.)

And then you'll have to go to the clothing store because your thighs will explode, in Incredible Hulk fashion, right out of your pants!

RedDeMartini 04-06-06 09:45 AM

cool crazy bike, your handlebars are even lower than mine.

And you guys have velodromes open to street bikes?

My friends are going to NZ on business, anything in partiucular they ought to see?
They will be all over the islands.

RedDeMartini 04-06-06 09:47 AM

um, how is the biopace?

Someone on this forum rides a 53-11 fixed. It's a Moulton, so it's not as impressive as it sounds.

queerpunk 04-06-06 09:51 AM

avanti isn't a bike, it's a non-latex condom.

silly.
