'SR' Frame question..

Can anbody tell me anything about 'SR' frames/bikes/the company/what 'SR' stands for?

Don't know what it stands for, but it's a Japanese company. A lot of dumpstered 80's Japanese roadbikes have the components.

didn't sr and suntour have some connection? one turned into the other or something like that?

I think SR now owns the SunTour name, but that's it. I think I read that all of the tooling for those badass hubs was scrapped when Suntour closed up shop.

Suntour Superbe hubs were made for Suntour by Sanshin. Sanshin's tooling was sold to Suzue and became the basis for the Promax hubs. That's why they all look basically the same, +/- disco.

Rode one for 22 years

I rode an SR Maxima for 22 years. It was the top of the line SR bike in 1984. It came with SunTour Superbe components. I finally retired it this year. I got a new Cannondale 613 with campy record components and campy zonda wheels. WOW what a difference. To read the history of SunTour go to:
