How to disassemble SS freewheel?

My Langster has a 16T freewheel. I would like to replace the stock 16T cog with the 14T that I've got on the fixed side of the flip-flop hub. Riding fixed in traffic is just not for me. Please tell me how to disassemble the freewheel, or point me to a web page. Thanks!

That's not possible. The smallest bmx freewheel is 16 tooth. You'll have to increase your chainring size to get that ratio.

actually you can get sub-16t freewheels. 14t and 15t were common for a long time and Odyssey came out with a 13t one 2-3 years ago when the whole microdrive thing got popular in bmx. the problem with running a freewheel under 16t is that the hub area with the threads needs to be smaller than what is typical for fixed/free or just plain singlespeed unless things have changed in recent years.

if you're that desperate you could probably pick up a sealed flip-flop bmx hub and try that. one side of the hub will be smaller for smaller freewheels.

I think white industries made a 15 tooth that had standard hub threading size. However, it was really pricey.

I'm pretty sure ACS makes a 15t freewheel with regular threading. I think 14t need a special hub.

15t is where the threading and diameter change. 16t is the smallest you can fit on a standard freewheel hub.

Thanks! Exactly what I needed to know. I'm glad I stopped trying to take it apart.

AC Racing makes the 15T freewheel to fit standard English threads. 13, 14 and other 15T freewheels need a metric BMX flip-flop hub. If you went to a BMX cassette hub, you could go all the way down to 9T.

I've got the AC freewheel on the flop of my fixed gear minibike, but it's not a super burly freewheel -- I'm not sure how long it would hold up to abuse on a full size bike. So for practical limits, 16T is as small as a regular English freewheel thread will go.

Thanks for the tip motion sickness, AFAIK AC racing (not ACS) are the only folks who make a 15t english threaded freewheel.

Going to a BMX hub would open up a whole other can of worms, because most of them have 110mm spacing and super-thick axles.

15t freewheel fr/ acs racing for standard threads.
btw, actually disassembling a freewheel is bad news; super small bearings everywhere.
Tell us how it goes.

That's an AC freewheel, the same one motion sickness was talking about. ACS is a different company and doesn't make a 15t that fits a standard english threaded hub.

oh. golly. yeah, you don't take apart a freewheel to replace the cog. you just remove the whole thing. it's one assembly, one piece.

I've had a ac racing 15 tooth freewheel. Worked fine and you can remove it with a sealed BB tool.

Note the section on freewheel threading. British and Standard are more or less interchangeable.
Peace!
