3t stems
Does anyone know anything about these 3T Stems?
http://www.chucksbikes.com/store/st012.htm They look kind of amusing for 6.50. However, I imagine a 6.50 stem is bound to suck. |
6.50, down from 10. i dunno. i've seen some decent stems pretty cheap. 3t is a brand i've never heard bad about, either.
|
is there a decent looking stem with a face-plate thats not threadless
|
In short, nope.
Threaded, open-fact stems are almost ALL ugly as hell. |
I've seen threads on here about 3T mutant threaded stems. They are discontinued, but folks on here got pretty excited about finding NOS or used ones
|
its a crime against humanity, the 3t stems look fairly classic too why cant they be threaded! whyyy
|
http://www.salsacycles.com/comps_stems.html - unique, but i would say definitely not ugly. bulletproof and very nicely finished.

That salsa one is BY FAR the best I've ever seen.
|
I had a 3T mutant classic (the threaded version). It was too long for me, so I got rid of it. It was a really nice stem... the removable face plate design is so handy. I wound up replacing it with about 4 cheap road stems, so I could still switch bars around easily.
There are attractive options for open-faced quill stems. Most notably, the mutant classic, the salsa SUL, the cinelli frog and the deda murex. |

I have four of them. A 90 for my road bike ( gears, the horrors), a 140 for my tri-errand bike ( ti tri frame, but built for cruising) and two sitting around. I have had the 90 on my bike since 2001 and it has been fine. Plenty stiff, but not integralter brutal. I like it. Def. worth the money.

Back to the OP...
I've got a threadless 120mm Mutant on my Steamroller, and love it. I like the look, I like the feel... it's just good. If you look on fixedgeargallery, a number of people also run the Mutant threadless. $6.50 is a steal. Just don't get the yellow one ;) Mine: http://velospace.org/files/IMG_3176.jpg FGG: http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2005...Benardis-1.jpg |

i rode a muntant for a while a loved it. had i known i could have gotten it for 7 bucks i would have saved about 20 bucks on it though
|
those aren't mutant stems, are they? and keevohn, that second bike is...weird. and tasty.

Check out the ITM Open 800 from nashbar. I got it for $20. I absolutely love it. Looks sweet too.
http://www.nashbar.com/profile_morei...u=15049&brand= I lost the front rubber part though. :( |
xxcycles had the mutant threaded for about $US50 for a while...
might be worth checking out. |

I've got a Mutant Classic that I got from xxxcycle.com

I have been using that threadless stem for about a 1 year and love it. I only wish they made it in different degrees. I picked mine off of ebay for 7 bucks. Totally worth it. I am now looking for the same stem in 120mm in black.

I have the threaded mutant classic (from xxcycles, as mentioned above), and I love it. It is ridicu-long (140), and so fairly inappropriate for bullhorns or the like. But really great for flat/riser/drops/cruiser etc. I know some people dont find them aesthetically appealing, but I get compliments like crazy and firmly believe it's the best looking part of my bike right now... which, really, isn't that hard.
I have a tendency to dislike threadless stems, like that hideous salsa one, but the mutants in the OP and fgg pix actually don't look like ****. Plus, they come in colors. red! yellow! silver! other colors? And for that cheap, I just might get a few in case I ever go threadless. |
on the bike i'm building up, i have a threaded fork, and i'm using one of those quill-to-threadless adaptors to mount a cinelli alter stem - I haven't had a chance to ride it yet (still waiting on a bunch of parts), so I don't know if it'll suck or not. it looks like it'll work out fine, though.
anyway, it gives you a lot more stem options if you're riding a threaded fork. |
