wobbly wheel
hi there,
just received my new iro mark v the other day. very pretty! this is my first fixed gear bike, and the first bike i've owned in several years. after assembly, i flipped the bike over and gave the front wheel a good spin. i noticed that the wheel wobbles back and forth in the fork a bit.. not enough to hit the front brake, but definately noticeable. is this something to be concerned about? if so, how do i fix it? thansk! |
Take it to an LBS to get it trued.
Very common. Easy enough fix. |
Is it the rim, or the tire? I got really pissed at one of my wheels once, when I discovered the bead had slipped...
|
Its probably out of true. This is typical for new wheels as HyperRevue mentioned. Or it might be the adjustment of the hub. Does the rim wobble, or is there play in the hub? What I mean is when you are not spinning the wheel can you get some side to side play?
|
How hard is play in the hub to fix? Is there a chance the mechanic just blew it, or does it usually mean damage?
I took in a hub to be "overhauled" and when I mounted it, there was play at the hub... |
Play in the hub is just a matter or tightening/adjusting the cones.
Again, easy to fix. |
thanks folks!
there is no play in the hub -- the wobble is only present when the wheel is spinning. guess i'll take the wheel down the the lbs in a day or two. need to pick up a lock and a helmet anyhow. darn. was hoping to be able to ride straight outta the box :/ |
you have mud in your tires.
|
Unless its REALLY out of true, and messing with your brake if you have any, you can probably still ride it(at least for an "I just got a new bike !YAY!" test run)
