Good candidate for fixed gear conversion?

I just found a junked Raleigh Colt single speed, the bike's frame is a bit small but will generally fit me with a little playing with components. I'm wondering if you folks think this is bike will make a good fixed gear conversion from it's current condition...please also consider this will be my first fixed endeavor.

Here's the condition:

it's SS with a 3 speed sturmey-archer hub (hub is broken and only one speed works), semi horizontal dropouts, front and rear working brakes, unknown manufactured wheels (front is nice chrome under the layer of dirt), frame has chips but only superficial rust, chain works but needs overhaul or replace. Also it's red and looks cool at least to me, it's a post-1964 model based on a servicable BB with plastic oil cap.

Thanks much! Al

man, have you tried adjusting the cable on that s-a hub much? or is it broken for sure?

i think a fixed 26" cruiser would own earth!!

i'd say you should get new wheels. slap those on, there may be some issues to work out, but you should be okay with the equipment on there. until you feel the need to upgrade, as i'm sure you will.

otherwise, it shouldn't be hard to convert, i'm just unsure about those SA 3-speed hubs. besides, suicide hubs are sketchy. i'd reserve them for ultra beaters/polo bikes or temporary fixes.

anyone know someone who successfully converted a s-a 3spd to a 2spd fixed?

How expensive would you estimate getting this S-A hub rebuilt will run me? One gear works while the others "slip off" when shifted to with the little thumb shifter. The bike is pretty amazing considering I found it leaning against a wall looking lonely. The bars were completely turned upside down for some reason and the brakes were on the wrong sides. Also there's no serial number, hopefully it's not stolen but left on the street just for me :)
