Material for flip'n'chops?
 

Does anyone know of a decent modern handlebar that:

- Comes in 26.0, 40-42 wide
- Is Al
- Has a straight top part, with a relatively small radius bend

- Most important: has a longish straight part before the down (up) curve.

Basically, I want it to be like a very short MTB flat bar with barends...

Sounds like you want some stoker bars. Theres tons of different makes and models so just cruise around the web stores.

you could also cut mtb bars shorter and stick on bar ends.

Don't make it worse, please!!! I love these bars but you know I live in the frickin' Wild East... American webshops are out of the question. Even if they're willing to ship here, it'll be expensive. Plus there's the fees of the transfer, and then 25% VAT or whatever. I could order from the EU, but here prices are higher, postage and payment is still not exactly cheap to Hungary, and then if it's sent with the regular postal service, then probably it will get either damaged or stolen. I don't have the money for that isht.

The only bullhorn sold here is the Ritchey Pro which I have now, but it has too much drop for my taste. Bummer.

sounds like you solved your own problem. just wrap the whole shebang with tape and you won't notice the difference.

or you could try rotating traditional drops so that the point which you want your hands isn't any lower.

alaska: No, I don't want MTB bars. I'd have to shim them, and I wouldn't be happy with them anyway for abstract aesthetic etc. reasons.

Still nobody can suggest bars begging to be chopped? In a bike shop I was told that all the modern bars curve down too early, but there must be something...

Oh, and the Nitto wouldn't be bad, but I don't really want Nitto on my bike... I'm not paying for silly keirin bling.

Maybe you could go to a bikeshop that got used stuff and ask to look at their handlebars?

Yeah, but there's a catch. I'm a weight weenie, so I want Al; and I am told that used Al handlebars crack like nobody's business... I like my teeth. Maybe I should buy a used steel bar cheap, try it, and then look for a flashy expensive new Al from abroad if I'm sure I want it, or an ebay deal comes up. I'm getting to really like the Nitto 018. It's almost perfect, 'cept that the short front bit is too curvy. I'd prefer a bend and then a minute straight bit. Oh well...

My flip/chops are Al and they've been fine for me.

When I needed bullhorns I bought several at US webshop, together with other bike equipement I needed. Thus, the shipping cost spreaded over many parts, some of which I sold locally, recovering the costs. I have lost just one item in transit on about 70 shipped, not bad given ****ing Wild East post/courier men Robin Hood attitude.

25% kills any deal from US webshops... I'm better off with a German shop then. Anyway, that'll only happen when (rather: if ever) I have money. It'd be sooo nice to go to the US and loot Ben's Bikes and IRO... *sigh*
