Bianchi Pista Beef

I dont know why I have allowed an online community make me feel bad for buying a bike that I can afford. This is an ommission of my own ********ness resulting in the feeling of less-than-ness.(none of the last sentence makes much sense so save the sarcasm)

All this aside, can someone-- and ryan ingersoll doesnt count, as a human both online and off-- tell me what it so wrong with this bike?

lets see how long we can go before something ridiculous and irrelevant is written.

i was gonna say something about how i like bianchi pista beef on toasted rye with provolone, but now i won't.

people just don't like pistas because everyone has pistas. and obviously, if everyone has one, then it's immediately a bad thing.

MKRG 04-18-06 05:19 PM

Nothing is wrong with it. It's a popular bike and people here thrive on their individuality that they got from someone else. We're all unique just like everybody else. Conform with nonconformity or something like that. Someone makes fun of your bike tell em to **** off. Simple really. Or make fun of their NJS seatpost binder bolt.

RYAN INGERSOL 04-18-06 05:22 PM

i can't think of anything wrong with the bike itself. it offers good bang for the buck, and it's not bad looking either (well, the chrome one at least.)

i can think of lots of things wrong with lots of the people who buy them. it seems likely that you are not one of these people. that chadbro in the other thread is one of them.

you shouldn't be ashamed of the bike as long as you ride it hard and don't use it to build a sense of self.

also, that sentence that you didn't like was fun. i like how you were trying to write. next time use admission instead of ommision. unless you meant ommision, in which case it REALLY didn't make sense. ;)

i have a couple of different fixies, and even though my nicest bike cost more than i like to think about (and was built with my geometry in mind)... i still love my pista. for the money, i think it's great. the only thing that i absolutely hate on it is the saddle.

but the bike definitely has a hipster status to it.

i think it's the rainbows that sent it into scenester land. that, or all the scenester who ride them.

sorry. that sentence doesn't convey what i intended. add 'through the perception of those you are trying to impress' and it hobbles on a little better.

i guess what i mean to say is that it's gross when people use products to define social identity. as long as you aren't doing that, don't worry.

the pope 04-18-06 05:27 PM

Yeah, dude. It's a great bike.

Some people may be less threatened by learning to relax their grip on the culture but who knows, who cares. That's not your problem to solve.

the pope 04-18-06 05:32 PM

For what it's worth, it used to be a lot worse around here with the Pista haters. Seems most of those people have faded away... the new thing is banging on the components, but concessions to the frame.

Whatever, NJS Track Stars!

efarrar 04-18-06 05:47 PM

While I have no beef with the pista, there are a lot of other good track bikes at that price. De Benardi, KHS, Fuji, etc. You don't hear anyone trash talking them, but that is probably because the pista is the most popular among them. Which is probably because the pista is the best value among them.

TRaffic Jammer 04-18-06 05:47 PM

Dude it's a Bianchi, and they have been building bikes since Joseph was a carpenter, feel no shame.

I like the Pista. The saddle looks bad, but what new bike's saddle doesn't?

hyperRevue 04-18-06 05:50 PM

De Bernardi is the same price for frame-only, so that doesn't really count.
Although I do love me some De Bernardi.

I have an '04 Pista that I love and ride daily. I've since upgraded every last part but rode it stock for a good year without any issues.
Don't over think it and just get it.

Right, the saddle.
If you don't replace the saddle immediately you're an ass. :D

wearyourtruth 04-18-06 05:53 PM

mmmmmmmmm... beef

Ira in Chi 04-18-06 05:54 PM

These are the problems with this bike: The frame is made out of 4130, which is the heaviest and most basic form of chromoly. The track ends are fairly thin. The fork has a welded unicrown design, which IMO is unattractive. Keep in mind, this all keeps the price down. The components are entry level, most importantly the wheels which are an expensive part to replace. Maybe it's a coincidence, but I do see a fair number of Bianchi brand track wheel coming through my shop in bad shape. If you don't mind these flaws, or you don't consider them to be flaws, then go for it.

A lot of people have this bike and like it. It's not a bad machine, but it is off-the-shelf entry level so don't expect anything more.

There's no wrong reason for liking anything.

efarrar 04-18-06 06:13 PM

This was mentioned a while ago but:

THESE BICYCLES ARE MADE BY ROBOTS!!!! ROBOTS!!!!

edit: spor just in time, back me up on this...ROBOTS!

I guess the question is then, are those "problems" not true of other pre-built entry level bikes?

the pope 04-18-06 06:17 PM

It's built as a track bike, not a conversion. Hitting pot holes? What do people want? I have 2K on my pista with no wheel problems at all. Same with the track ends. Are these busting off bikes? Eduordo B. oughtta do a recall, if that's the case.

sloppy robot 04-18-06 06:23 PM

there's no wrong reason to like something

dmg 04-18-06 06:29 PM

Yeah, I think the chest-cold green ones are awesome.

isotopesope 04-18-06 06:38 PM

i think that new green is nothing but sharp. in my opinion, it's the best color yet for the taiwanese robot welded pistas. i like that battleship grey a good deal too.

the bianchi pista is a great bike. enjoy it. my pista is by far my favorite bike i own...

if they'd jsut change that fork.. i could fully get behind it.. but unfortunately .. thats the same cheap fork i didnt like in mid-80s bmx days (tange?) .. and it doesnt grow on you..im not afraid of threadless stems though
