Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

come to bridgeport, connecticut

yesterday, i met somebody who i will confidently say is the only other fixed gear rider in bridgeport, connecticut. he wants to throw an alleycat. we talked, and you know what? we're sick of traveling to the bike scene. we want the bike scene to come to us. so, i'm hanging a baited line here to gauge interest.

our race will visit the beautiful sights of bridgeport--the park city! the arsenal of democracy!--ncluding the bar district, several abandoned munitions factories, parks designed by Frederick Law Olmstead (the guy who designed Central Park), a polluted river or two, 50 continuous acres of vacant lots, and the manufacturing center of the largest distributor of generic tylenol.

it would likely be some saturday, late may/early june. possibly may 27th. it's a little over an hour train ride from nyc.

so, would you come?

(this is the friendly invitation. if i get no interest, then i'll post a less friendly invitation, challenging your manhood, insulting your family, and challenging the purity of your geneology)

my parents live in colchester so I might get over there and ride around sometime, just to represent. I'd be riding a white conversion or a brand new IRO frame (that'll happen when the refund check shows up)

Isn't that big graffiti legal wall in Bridgeport? from what I remember that roads are pretty beat up around there. I'd be down to see what else the great city of Bridgeport has to offer.

QP--New Haven folks would show for it. metronorth makes this easy. Folks from Hartford and Middletown show up for alleycats here. Set a firm date and the word will spread.

There's rumors about the "Kings of New England" massive alleycat in Hartford and New Haven, with a road race in between... this is in July. The B-port one could be a one-day classic.

Oh HELL yes. New Haven is just too damn pretty, we need a gritty-ass rough-town alleycat in Bridgeport.

Seriously, I'd be down. If you want to attract even more folks, talk to the GHETTODROME group on Myspace, and the folks who work at The Devils Gear in New Haven. I'm sure you'd catch a lot of interest from that crew, especially considering how their just a short jaunt down the commuter line...

I might be coming up there too look around this week, if you know cool places to live within like 15 or 20 minutes of westport that arentt like totally super expensive but also dont suck it would be much much much appreciated information. Grew up in Danbury, live in NYC. I would consider this mission just to bomb around Bridgeport (and sneak into the trainyard.)

also, I don't know alot of CT at all, like I know hartford and east hartford, manchester, vernon area just by BMX bike really. I know enfield a little.

I don't think my track bike has ever touched CT soil since I moved.

if I'm ever back in CT, I'd love to shred around with anyone there. Well, anyone that knows where they're going.

if anyone's down, PM me or something. I'm glad I moved, but it's nice to go back from time to time.
