Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: Iro Mark V Fix and a 24" Nirve bmx

1. fix conversion
2. haro bmx
3 old ass trek ss mtb

This will grow, I'm getting an angus frame when the refund check shows up and then possibly a wheelset over the summer and eventually I'd like to get ahold of a 24'' bmx and make the trek a fix. I'm telling myself that that will be it, I know that's not what's going to happen. I'm addicted to bike.

I also eat tons of rice and beans. Goya is my friend.

Bikes: A whole bunch o' bikes.

Lets see.....

1)Norco Montery SS conversion
2)2001 Kona Roast mtn bike
3)Raleigh Olympian 12 speed
4)80's McKinnely Java rigid mtn bike for pulling the kids in the trailer
5)mid-70's Raleigh Sprite 5 speed for library runs

Those are just the ones that are in one piece. Lots more frames and parts waiting on time and money in the garage.

The right number of bikes is N+1.

Bikes: Bridgestone RB-T, Soma Rush, Razesa Racer, ⅔ of a 1983 Holdsworth Professional, Nishiki Riviera Winter Bike

even though I own five (or six) bikes I love them all. Most of em are old, and not very shiny, but I find I love them as much as the new shiny bikes. I love the old beaters more all the time. Not only are they very useful in a utilitarian sort of a way, I find they all ride nice in their own way. They are all very different to ride, and I love having the luxury of choosing the bike that best suits my mood or purpose.

In my head I think 3 would be the perfect number, but in my heart I can't bear to part with any of them.

trek conversion. super nice 531 steel. main steed that gets parts switched almost weekly.
ross conversion. triple butted ishiwata. only spent 13 dollars total building it.
viscount conversion. track drops. cx tyres.
trek mountain bike. full xt. ****ty old indy xl fork. slicks.
columbia cruiser. hardly ever ridden but nice to look at.
random schwinn cruiser. first bike i ever fully restored. also hardly ever ridden but really hard to get rid of.
univega viva touring single speed. racked out for grocery getting.
itty bitty miyata frame. i need to get a short girlfriend and build this up for her.
and then there's this thing. i'm saving it for when i'm ready to commit suicide.

i wouldn't own as many as i do, but i've got a *****in' workspace.

that's the storage half. the other side (which i don't have a pic of) is the work half. sheds rule.

I tend to acquire bikes easily and seem to have a hard time getting rid of them.

Currently, I'm living with this :

1. Kona Keiki urban bar bike, great for fun and general mayhem
2. Holland 650c bike, fixed. This thing's a rocket ship!
3. Handbuilt singlespeed mtb - I don't ride it enough, but I love the way it rides enough that I'd have a really hard time getting rid of it.
4. Kona Keiki dirt hooligan. It's a long story, but this just recently came back into my life after I gave it away years ago. I couldn't turn away an old friend, could I?
5. 3Rensho 'crossish conversion - the first bike I reach for, usually.
6. Surly Karate Monkey - this bike will do anything, and do it passably. The only working derailleured bike in the house.
7. My old Kona Explosif. I built it up over a decade ago when I worked in a shop, and it's been everywhere and done everything with me. I don't ride it much these days, but there's no way it's leaving my life.
8. DBR Ti MTB bike. In a state of disrepair right now. Eventually I'll have to fix it up and sell it, as it's the hardest bike for me to justify to myself.
9. Kona A'ha - the captain america cruiser, and the #1 loaner bike. Probably going to get sold off as well, eventually.

I seem to have a miswiring, where 'replacements' become 'additions'. Oh well, it beats crack.
