Zombie Thread!

Oh well, since it's here I might as well contribute.

FG/SS - Motobecane Messenger (i also have a SRAM S-7 IGH wheel for this bike so it can act as a geared road bike too)
Hybrid - Raleigh Detour Deluxe
Mountain - Felt Q720
Tandem - Cignal Melbourne Express (does this count as one or two bikes?!)
Mrs. HandsomeRyan's - Scott Sportster
Trailer - WIKE Large Cargo Trailer (not really a bike, but a notable bike accessory)

I keep all of these inside a 900sqft apartment. (no garage or storage shed; inside in what should be the living/dining room)

caloso 12-13-09 06:08 PM

Right now I have three rideable bikes:

1) '89 Trek 660 fixed commuter/rain bike.
2) '86 Gazelle Champion Mondial neo/retro roadie
3) '08 Fetish Ankh CX

I recently crashed my race bike ('08 Bianchi 928) so I'm either going to resurrect my '00 Trek 5200 or something in aluminum.

JoeEasy 12-13-09 06:15 PM

Somewhere between "a few" and "too d**ned many" depending on who you ask.

Deshi 12-13-09 10:59 PM

1: 2010 Pake
2: 1986 Pinarello Pista
3: 1977 Schwinn Super Le Tour 12.2

hairnet 12-13-09 11:10 PM

Two so far. Having two bikes saved my ass for bike commuting, I had wrecked the rear wheel on my road bike and completed my fixie whip just a couple weeks before. I didn't have cash for a new wheel for quite a while.

I don't see the point in having more than one of a single type of bike. Why need 3 track bikes? Why need 5 road bikes?

So selfish and materialistic. I have to have all these things. I can understand if you have bikes of various types: road, XC, DH, track, shopping etc. But when you get to about 5 bikes it's just getting a bit stupid.

(Although I do live in Central Tokyo where space is a luxury) My apartment building limits us to 1 bike parking space per apartment! but there are like 47 floors in my building, so there is never going to be enough space for everyone.

So selfish and materialistic.

You not understanding why someone might own several of the same type of bike is okay; you calling people "selfish and materialistic" because of something you [admittedly] don't understand is rude though.

Many people end up with multiples of the same type of bike because as they upgrade to newer or nicer bikes they don' get rid of their old ones. Also sometimes people buy a bike just because they got a killer deal on it. Your post sounds more like jealousy to me. Although this is an international forum, the majority of the posters here are from the US and Canada where [in most places] space is not as much of a problem as it is in Tokyo. I keep 5 bikes (including a tandem) in the living room/dining room of my 900sq/ft apartment because the bikes are more important to me than a formal kitchen table is.
