Help with frames.
So I'm lookin at building up a pot-hole eating street machine with a few specific things in mind.
Basically, I'm looking for a frame that's similar to the brooklyn machine works frame on FGG two days ago. http://fixedgeargallery.com/2006/apr/Fixedrider_2.htm Sloping top tube and tight clearances, but regular sized tires. If I could use a 700mm tire, that would be awesome. The less braze ons the better, as I'll be using 1 front brake and nothing on the rear. While a water bottle cage might be a nice thing, its not really important. Any ideas on what's out there? |
Is the IRO Jamie Roy like that?
I'm too lazy to look at their site. |
|
zow, DAMN, those are some fat tires.
|
oooh ... 38mm tires, but aluminum is the only thing i'm frowning upon. I could live with it, but I'd rather look at steel if possible.
|
is that the pugsly?
|
indeed
|
No front brake on that beast?
|
You use the car infront of you to stop. Bounce right off the bumper with those tires!

that bike looks like it would be insanely fun to ride

At first, I thought, 'wow, what a slow bike!', but then I saw the seat.

I'm feelin the puglsey - looks like fun - bianchi also makes some ruff-ridin frames too (D.I.S.S., S.I.S.S., etc) |
try my kogswell out tomorrow. it's set up as an ice-dicing, snow-munching cyclocross machine--sadly without fenders...
i'm bringing that one to the race--hopefully with the fender omission remedied. |
At the NAHBS Peacock Grove Cycles had a single speed with those same tires. Three identical chainrings, three identical cogs, and three chains connecting them. I've got pics somewhere...

...Sloping top tube and tight clearances, but regular sized tires. For a good urban runner, that can take some abuse, I'd recommend the On-One Il Pompino: http://www.on-one.co.uk/images/pagemaster/Pompino_4.jpg Cyclocross style clearance, compact geo, and a nice price. If you don't want it so crossy, I'd say the Redline 9-2-5 would do you well: http://www.redlinebicycles.com/adult...images/925.jpg Similar compact geo, clearance for bigger tires and/or fenders (included), and a VERY nice price. |
I'm sorry, I was half asleep when I wrote that this morning. Tight Clearance with regular size wheels, and somewhat knobbie tires.
|
and the il pompino looks pretty nice, i gotta say.
|
hmmm, I was at the LBS last night and saw a Kona Unit, and damn ... that's a pretty sweet bike. I'd have to build up another rear wheel for it to be fixed, but the option of being able to easily mount dual discs (without buying a new fork, etc..) is pretty appealing out of the box, although a bigger gear and chopped bars would be neccessary.

I am looking for something extremely similar, basically just like the redline 9-2-5 is there any other options? I am wanting to find something with a sloping top-tube but not so "crossy" as described above, the redline seems perfect but would be interested if there are any other similar bikes out there?
I have a 58cm Soma Rush that is not quite what I am looking for, I want to set it up as a SS and the rush isn't made for that, I would always trade if anyone had any offers..... Any other suggestions anyone? |
