My first practical track stand!

Hey guys and gals. I did my first in-traffic track stand today, and just wanted to share. Not a big deal, really. I was the first person up to a red light in my lane, so I lined up over the buried sensor and did my thing 'til the light turned green. I realize that this board is full of people that can track stand with no hands, blindfolded, and upside down. But I have been practicing for a couple of weeks now, and I'm just happy that my efforts paid off- even if it was just saving myself the extra second that it takes me to stab a clipless pedal.

Bikes make me happy, and life is good.

enjoying bikes is always good.

the first "practical trackstand" i did in traffic was downtown at night. a car pulled up at the same time as me and the passenger, obviously drunk, started yelling "don't fall" and so forth at me. it was a long light and after a minute he started rooting for me to keep it up. as the cross light turned yellow he was like, "almost there. . . yeah!" and we rode off together in celebration.

it not only just saves you a second- it looks COOL! :)

my first one by myself was rad too, but I think the one that I still remember was when me and my friend did them at the same time at a light, to the call of "syncronised ******s!" from some dude in a truck.

Is it me, or is that bike too small for that guy? I like how the people across the street are watching him.

dustinlikewhat 04-23-06 10:04 AM

they look like 650 wheels on a 43 frame. or maybe his trackstand skills just make him dwarf everything around him

Trackstanding in traffic is why fixed gear bikes rule everything around me.

i like my bike just a tiny bit small...i could easily rock a 60 or 61, but i'm loving 58s. longer stem, and everything is right as rainl.

I've met the pavement plenty of times while practicing. The last time I spilled I somehow ended up in push-up position over the top of my bike, which would have been painful to land on (not to mention probably bad for the bike too.

[EDIT] And in no way do I mean to imply that I'm cool. I will be the first person to tell you that I am not.
