Kissena Opening Weekend, April 29 and 30th

We’re one week away from opening weekend. It should be a lot of fun. I guess it’s time to see who’s done what over the winter.

10am start on Saturday and 12pm start on Sunday. If anyone wants to ride up both days, let me know. I think I would leave Brooklyn around 8am on Saturday—possibly earlier

brunning 04-23-06 08:33 PM

what kind of events can track racing newbs participate in?

Yoshi 04-23-06 08:52 PM

My bike is being painted...anyone have a bike I can borrow?

if you've not yet done an instructional, none. otherwise, any of the events being held for your entry class are open.

pitboss 04-23-06 10:34 PM

well, I might catch a flight out ometime Saturday seeing as my original plans have changed. Unless someone wants to go sit in an Ed Psych class for me so I can leave earlier!

Just walk out ala Val Kilmer in 'Real Genius'.

Are they going to have instructional classes anytime soon?

I am planning on riding out and watching (track frame not built yet). Where are you leaving from?

I'll be there.

eddiebrannan 04-24-06 12:45 PM

How do you get from PP to Kisenna?

Mr Monster Legs 04-24-06 01:20 PM

John Campo runs "instructionals" on saturdays. basically they are track clinics and training sessions. if you're able to ride a bike well i'm sure they will let you race. I know at t-town no one checks if you have track experience. I would say come, find out if you can race, if not, you can watch some racing and join in next time.

8 am at GAP sounds good to me. however, if i'm up early i might head out earlier. If i'm there you'll see me, if not, i've already left.

genericbikedude 04-24-06 01:30 PM

Will I get attitude if I don't have a skinsuit for the saturday session?

christiank 04-24-06 01:48 PM

The race flyer on Kissena's site mentions "brand new" riders racing in Men's B category. So I doubt there will be strict experience checks. Although if you have never ridden on the track it might be a good idea to get out there and get use to it. There will likely be a lot of people racing this weekend and an awkward move by an inexperienced rider could be dangerous.

Genericbikedude: If by not having a skinsuit you mean regular cycling shorts and jersey then you will not be ridiculed. You certainly won't be the only one. Just please don't wear anything too baggy. It makes it hard for rider's behind you to see what's going on up ahead.

You are probably right with there being a lot of people racing this weekend. I have only been on the track a few times so racing with a bunch of inexperienced riders on the track does not sound to safe. I will probably be there to watch.

I hope to race if I can kick my allergies symptoms. I am going to start hitting the allergy medicine tonight.

I've been resisting buying cycling-specific clothes for quite some time now--maybe i'll give in...

He said something along those lines to me last year at brean's tracksploitation event and I didn't get to ride. Thanks for that info Tyler, I will be out there to earn my wings soon!

EDIT ** I just got this message about 30 seconds ago.

Hi gang. Just got word from Campo that the Star Tracks kids will be on the track from 9-11, so we will delay the start of Saturday until such time that they are concluded and you have some warm-up time. Say at least 11:30 or so.

Pass along to anyone that plans on coming.

Thanks,
Alan
