Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? What's really really really really really good?

Doc sez my fractured elbow is healing nicely, so my 7 weeks of moping around on foot and stuffing myself into the subway while happy, laughing, bicycle-riding people pass are over...tonight.

Woo hoo!

All I can say is don't fall... you haven't ridden a while - take it easy... all of these stories about crashing on the first day of a new bike, it's the same thing. Otherwise have an awesome time, congrats

Bummer. Fractured my elbow about 18 months ago & was off the bike for 9 weeks, incl. a few where my girl had to tie my shoes for me because my hilariously inoperable wrist. Heal well.

congrats, boots. It'll be good to have you back on the streets.

BTW, I think there should be a "boot's blog" subforum here. I love your stories.

+1 on the be careful. The day I took my sling off in november I broke my hand. It was just the pinky metacarpal and I didn't want to get anymore doctor's orders so I just winced it off.

word, I was wondering how you were doing after that. haha they thought the checkpoint dude was being an ******* cause while you were on the ground I asked him who had the stamp and he yelled "Someone get me a stamp right here!" into the crowd. Nice riding with you with my badly cramped left leg hahaha.

I feel ya. I ruptured my Achilles Tendon hooping in February. I haven't been on a bike since. While I've been rehabing (and getting fatter), I've been building a new bike. The doc cleared me to ride last week. My bike might be ready this weekend. We'll see if my leg is up for fixie riding or not.
