my chrome bag is getting funky
 

i dunno how to wash it. if i put it in the washing machine the laundromat ladies will kill me b/c of the buckle. any other methods you've used successfully to get the funk out?

wool lite (or generic version) in the bath tub. Febreeze works well at getting the funk out.

if you want to put it in the washing machine, just wrap something around the buckle like a sock or hand towel, and make sure its tightened well.

I spilled some coke in the bottom of an old old Jansport backpack I had been wearing for ~8 years and decided to just try and wash it out in a sink. Three times I filled the sink to the top, three times I soaked the backpack, three times the water turned deep yellow/brown. Fun times.

vinega rocks for getting rid of bad odours.

Vinegar it is -- white vinegar, the $1 bottle kind from your local grocers.

I've been tempted to try this method. Just curious, does it leave a vinegar smell to the bag? Or do you rinse it out for a long period of time?

I would imagine that vinegar's gonna have some residue. Use at your own risk. It may be funkier than the original funk, especially if you allow it to get into the outside fabric of the bag.

It does leave a slight vinegar aftersmell but the funk is gone and you can only smell if you put your nose right up on it.

I suggest you soak it in vinegar, rinse then wash it normally. That takes care of the smell -- I've only done the afterwash (with regular detergent) once though.

is that safe on the water proof layer?

Stick it inside a couple of pillow cases, wash it along with a couple heavy towels.

My girl washed mine for me because she couldn't stand the sight of my dirty mess bag hanging around. She put it in the washing machine, buckle on the inside, flap closed loosely. She used regular detergent with a capful of Pinesol (don't really know why), and then hung it up to dry. Looks damn good, no lingering smell of Pinesol or detergent.

thanks for the replies. i'm gonna give the vinegar a go and then febreeze it. it's getting to where you can't walk by it in my apt. w/o being like "whoa, what's that smell?" hahaha. gross!

if the laundromat ladies kill you, get up and kill them right back.

Dude, I had the same problem. The worst is when the stanky bag is leaving it's stank on your shirt. Like you're sitting there at work, typing some **** on bike forums and you're like "What IS that smell" and then your realize it's your own shoulder and you're like , "****, this is DISGUSTING."

Use the vinegar. It works. You should do it about once every month and half or so. Don't use febreeze.
