MINNEAPOLIS: sometimes we ride

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Anything going on tonight? six one two - two eight one - eight seven one five. Two dudes on bikes looking to drink and maybe ride a little. We're heading out to uptown pretty soon.

Anyone planning on riding Sunday morning? I can make it up to the triple rock at about 10:45 or 11 if that's not too late for folks. If nobody replies, I might just stay home and get rested up for the no-name alleycat gig Sunday evening.

So waking up drunk and getting drunker to get rid of the hangover counts as race prep, right?

I'm a little worried that the race has 'Minneapolis is too flat' as a theme. I think the fixie might hurt me a little bit...

According to Josh last night, I need to come up with the theme for the month after next. I think I'll see how the first two go first...

The race was awesome; especially all the fun at the bar afterwards.

Two of us got pinch flats on one particularly harsh railroad crossing (myself included) and had to do a tube swap at the bar. Unfortunately, I seem to have hit the tracks so hard that my rim is no longer a perfect circle. On smooth pavement, I can feel a bump once per wheel revolution. I haven't had a chance to actually get a close look at the wheel yet, so I'm really hoping that I just mounted the tire offcenter somehow last night while I was less than sober. This was a brand new ****ing wheel that I built myself on Saturday. So to have it barely last more than 24 hours before getting messed up is pretty depressing. The tube had three holes in it from the pinch flat, indicating that I hit the track square on with both sides of the rim and hard enough for the tube to be punctured in three out of four contact areas. Mother****er.

At least I didn't wipe out or anything and I didn't come in DFL like half of the race did. heh. The other positive is that I scored two free tubes last night during the flat repair chaos; they both just needed a patch. One was Pi's flat tube from the tracks, and the other was a tube some wrench gave Pi that got pinched by a tire lever when some other wrench needed a lever to get a 28mm tire onto a CXP22. (wuss!) I patched them up and they are holding air over in the corner of my cubicle so far. If I see Pi again, I'll give him his repaired tube back since I don't have a use for a fatter tube with my 23mm tires.

It was fun. I still feel bad for that roadie I took out on east river road. Oops. Hope she was OK...

Had to work, oh well. Seems like I'll never be able to have fun like that on a Sunday for quite some time. Oh well, making a living by riding my bike isn't all that bad............

I keep thinking we need to take this frivolity to the Black Dog TT races, just to get under the spandex crowd's skin. Imagine a bunch of us showing up fixed and throwin' down, with HereNT battling a hangover, I'd say we'd make a statement.

It looks like those are all on Wed, I'd probably be out. That whole being gainfully employed thing. I kind of doubt my helmet would be approved, too.

So... Anyone feel like riding this weekend? Sunday's probably out because OneOnOne's having their swap and I'm probably not going to be moving all that well by the time I leave, but I'd be down for some day miles before the Sat Night Ride tomorrow...

Anyone?

I'll be touring leisurell in the vicinity of Lake Pepin with a bunch of other weirdos, so I'm out for the majority of the weekend.

I'm going to convince Chris that it's a great idea to take Z to her first swap meet. She loves bikes. Meet us at mine?

that's why you got 48 hours notice

And for everyone else who lives in MPLS, we're actually normal people in person. Everyone's welcome and I'll probably have extra beer to share.

Dude, I travel at, like, 8 mph tops with the babycruiser. Seriously. It's hilarious. It's shameful. And if we get enough mechanically inclined people in one place, maybe we can get it to go a little bit faster.

I wasn't talking about the ride there, but the relay afterwards. It looks like I'm going to be working Sun, but afternoon/evening....

So where are we meeting to ride to the swap? I need to find myself some gearey parts like derailleurs and shifters and stuff...

Blah, back to work.
