Hardly fixed related but if someone could please tell me how to set up a video to be download through bittorrent, that would be great. Thanks.

Download the basic client at www.bittorrent.com

Then when you click on a torrent link in Internet Explorer, it will automatically open the download for you.

Ok, if you just want to seed a new one, the easiest thing would probably be to download azureus, and click file-> new torrent. Use that to create the .torrent file, and upload it to thepiratebay.org or whatever site you want. Most sites have an upload form that also tells you what tracker you should use. Make sure you input the correct tracker url into the form when you create the torrent with azureus.

Alternatively, you could run azureus's embedded tracker, and then just send or email the .torrent file to everyone you want to upload to.

For the bittorrent protocol to work properly, people are going to need to be able to make incoming connections to you. This means that you will have to open a port in your firewall (if you have one) or configure your router (also, if you have one) to forward that port to your machine. By default, most bittorrent clients use 6881 for incoming, and the tracker usually runs on port 80 (if you decide to run the embedded one).

There's no escaping bittorrent, is there?

Assuming you're using Azureus, go into tools/options. Goto tracker/server - click on the 'auto discover external IP address' (assuming you have a static IP). I enabled it on the single port, just because that seemed like a better idea...

After that you should be able to goto file/new torrent and choose the file. Then I think you just email the torrent or put it up on a website for download...

I think that's all there is to it, but I'm not really sure. Can't hurt to try, right?

Dont use 6881 as it is a **** port. A lot of ISPs block this port because of bittorrent. A lot of trackers are kicking people who use this port because ISPs are blocking it and the trackers want to keep the average swarm speed up. see this page

Use a port in 49152 - 65534 range. Do not use a port below unless you know exactly what your doing as a lot of windows apps and integral parts of windows uses these ports.
http://www.portforward.com/ is a very very good site on how to open ports in firewalls and routers. It also tells you for most programmes how to change the port being used.

You may be wondering why I wrote this. So many people ask why bittorrent doesnt work for them or why is it so slow and most of the time its a port forwarding problem so Im just trying to prevent a few posts.
