Curb Pedal Strike

Ive been able to avoid this so far, but do any of you have any curb pedal strike horror stories?

it is scary and will probably hurt (i got lucky and was able to pedal through it becasue the curb was low enough), you'll only do it once and then either wait for traffic or ride between lanes.

take the lane man, curb strike sucks... it's never made me fall yet, but it's happened a few times, usually while being crowded. I ended up running last time with my feet on the ground and my crotch on the tube.

That's ball strike.

Enjoy

I was riding next to some pretty tall curbs yesterday to avoid a cobblestone street (the curb has 12" of smooth concrete next to it before the cobblestones start) and I was thinking that it would really suck to hook a pedal on that curb.

I'd never get that close to a curb I wasn't about to hop.

Or did you mean pedal strike while going up or down curbs? I haven't had that yet, but I got a wicked pedalstrike climbing up a skateboard ramp once (don't ask no one was looking, and I thought it looked fun). I hit the pedal at about the 4 o clock position while cresting the top of the ramp. Didn't fall, but felt pretty dumb. So I can see how it would be likely to happen when riding up or down curbs. Only way around it that I can see is to try to time it so the cranks are more or less horizontal when the curb is beneath the bb.

I've done it a couple of times, usually while squeezing past stopped traffic. I was always going pretty slow, so it just made a bad noise, popped the rear end up, and scuffed up the pedals. Not such a big deal. I would never get that close to the curb at speed.

Some varieties of clipless pedals will release when you wack the bottom, which would make things a bit worse.

+1. Only happens at one point on my commute, and this is all that ever happens.

Hardly a horror story, but I hopped a curb once and knocked off the triangular flip-up tab on my gr-9s. I've also scraped the bottoms of my cranks quite a bit, though I'm not exactly sure how. This was a while ago though, I'm much nicer to my equipment now.

I have hit my pedal once going up a curb, but I wasn't going that fast soit was just really uncomfortable and loud. I have more problems with turning and pedal striking the ground, I have managed to save myself the last 2 times it happened...its still scary though and I am looking into getting some shorter cranks. anyone else have this problem?
