Kangaroo Cranks: 2 observations

I was futzing around with an old bike with a beat out crank arm. I know It's not gonna help, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try to turn the crank on the spindle 180 degrees. While I had it that way I couldn't resist taking it for a little spin with Kangaroo Cranks. HAHA! What a blast.

2 observations:
1. Kangaroo cranks are a wicked ab workout. I felt like I just did 150 crunches in rapid succession
2.This setup would work a lot better on a fixed gear, and with clipless pedals instead of clips and straps. reefing down on the straps helped a bit.

The hula bike is still worlds cooler than the treadmill bike. The ultimate in redundant exercise equipment!

I wonder if you could put the treadmill bike on rollers?

morbot 05-11-06 08:37 PM

and then attach the rollers to wheels

Seriously, that's just the sort of competition that's embarrassing to win. And then... TWICE???

That competition is all about making a silly spectacle. Most people, myself included can't really ride it with any great proficiency without a lot of practice. Hence the amusement factor of watching people try. Performance is judged more on "style" than proficiency. I won the first time by singing Born to be wild while "riding" around some cones. I forget what I sang the second time bicycle built fort two maybe? Both times the Prize was Ingo Bike Challenge T-shgirts in hideous colors. Purple with pink screening the first time, yellow with lime green the second. I'll probably win it again the next time I got back. I'm just THAT good at making a fool of myself.
