Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I couldn't own a bike that nice. I'd be too scared to have any real fun on it.

the only saving grace to that is that it was ordered from the factory with the fork drilled so at least it's original. And I wouldn't have the skills or the anatomy to ride it on the road without a brake.

I have raced bikes for 20 plus years, so I'm not exactly new to bikes, just never had a fixed gear.

That is a beautiful classic bike! I became interested in fixies because I admired the clean appearance and simplicity, including the perfect chain line, of track bikes. I didn't know there was a whole culture of those who rode such bikes on the street until I started doing some research, though I had seen some fixies being ridden in the area. I am sure someone will call me a poser sooner or later, but I don't worry about it. Some people seem amused at my liking for wooden canoes, 19th-century style canoe paddles, and single-shot rifles too. No kool-aid; just an appreciation for clean simplicity, plus an interest in history.
