Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Chicago / Bike the Drive

Bike the Drive, who else is in? This is our only chance to ride LSD (unless you are one of the massers who tries to sneak on the last Friday every month)

I had a good time last year, looking forward to it again this time around

I really want to do it. I would like to get another 9 people to do it with me so I can do it for $35 because funds are scarce (to say the least) after my latest bike project.

You can ride the same route for free on the lake front path 24/7/52/365, and not have to get up at a$$ o'clock on sunday morning or weave your way through spandex-clad yuppies on hybrids (ok, less of them at least). CBF is a great organization, though, and if you want to do bike the drive you should scrape up the $25 for an individual membership or $15 for students, which gets you $10 off the entry fee and 10% off at yojimbo's and a lot of other shops.

Other discounts w/ CBF membership (https://www.biketraffic.org):

Almost all Chicago bike shops (minus Performance)
Various Ace Hardwares
Eli's Cheesecake
Goose Island Brewpub
Music Box Theatre
Orange
VeloNews
...and more
https://www.biketraffic.org/content.php?id=118_0_12_0

I won't be able to make Bike The Drive this year.
Instead I'll be doing some riding out of state.
But every year BtD is awesome!

I don't want to pay all that money to ride my bike. I can do that for free every day. Who cares about riding on LSD? I've driven on it, it's not that cool.

I've heard that riding "bandit" is not hard, just ride onto LSD without paying and you'll be fine. That said I paid because supporting CBF is cool.

So yes, I'll be back in Chicago for the Bike The Drive weekend. I'll most likely be riding geared.

I've ridden BTD each year. Say what you want, but I see it as a highlight of the summer. Owning LSD for a few hours of quiet with other cyclists is a celebration.

Honestly, you don't have to pay if you don't want to. It's very easy just to show up and ride. No one will say anything to you.

But, paying helps fund a great organization.

I'll be there with bells on (not literally).

How much interest do you think this bike would get:
