Mine have been great for over a year.

seasponge 05-22-06 01:26 AM

are they discontinuing the whole promax line? which ones exactly are they discontinuing?

baxtefer 05-22-06 01:44 AM

you obvioulsy suck at adjusting bearings

(all suzues are gone. tooling destroyed. owner dead)

seasponge 05-22-06 01:53 AM

nuts

fixedpip 05-22-06 02:33 AM

I'm starting to suspect that Suzue had a quality problem at the end. All the folks I've seen complain about Pro-Maxs seem to have just bought 'em. Those of us that love(d) them seemed to have had them for years.

I just wonder if this was another reason for Suzue's demise, just a coincidence, or a complete talking out of my behind hypothesis.

Anyway, I still have much  for the NJS Pro-Maxs (mines done me proud).

tooling to be destroyed?

ffonst 05-22-06 02:24 PM

my pro-maxes are great... only been riding them for about a month, though.

asterisk 05-22-06 03:08 PM

i'll chime in once again that my promax stripped out in less than a week of very light usage on the street. no skids, a few skips, ridden with a front brake doing most of the stopping. i have built and serviced hundreds of bikes, so i know what i'm doing.

buy a surly or formula for the same price as one promax, you'll be happier and they'll last longer.

hyperRevue 05-22-06 03:24 PM

I have to believe that that was just one bad hub that slipped through and is not indicative of the hubs overall quality.
The majority of reviews being positive attest to that.

onetwentyeight 05-22-06 03:40 PM

harris cyclery has a sale on the promax to mavic open pros right now.

oh,im pretty damn good at adjusting bearings, but the hubs are NOT precision made.

hyperRevue 05-22-06 06:51 PM

You really can't discount an entire product line, which is widely regarded as high-end, from one bad experience with them.

genericbikedude 05-22-06 07:12 PM

how about two bad experiences with them?

don't get me wrong, they are not terrible--just not especially great. maybe they used to be better, I dunno.

hyperRevue 05-22-06 07:14 PM

Okay, two.
Still statistically insignificant.

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything.
I'm just saying, a few bad products that slipped through does not make the entire line ****ty, especially when the majority of experiences have been positive.

na975 05-22-06 07:56 PM

thats funny.

for the record, I do agree with hyperRevue's point. I'm just sharing my experience, but agree that they are widely known as great hubs. it still does make a great paperweight for me, if nothing else.
