Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I haven't exactly worked it out yet, but it's probably not going to be a single 10-lap race...there may be a few of 5-lap heats and a final winner-determining heat, or there may be something else. There will probably be primes, or at least some mechanism to spread the wealth around a bit (lest this thread be renamed "Summer Race Series: Nico Takes All"). I can pretty much guarantee that at least one convention of road crits will be accidentally trampled in the planning process.

I would push for something like "15 minutes plus 3 laps"

If the field laps you, you are out.
If Nico shows up on a bike (or anything vehicular), he is disqualified.

Alright, t-minus five days! Tell your friends! Big turnout!

(Does anyone have a cowbell or similar noisemaking device that they could bring to the race to announce primes? Also, could someone tell me whether it's pronounced "prEYEms" or "prEEEms?" Efarrar and I have a difference of opinion.)

I know English is confusing, but in this case the e at the end of prime means you pronounce the i as a hard i: EYE. PrEYEme. Although I do( ) understand how the pronunciation of PRIme could be confused with the pronunciation of PREmium. Without the e at the end it would be prim, as in ahem, but that's another lesson.
I hope to be one of those lucky primes come Wednesday.

preem...extended vowel annunciation of the truncated form of the word "premium," which in this instance refers to a reward for taking first during a recognized lap.

for anyone still over here who does not know about the ChiFG forum thing
I go a tandem and the organizer says this

Posted By: chiamdreamI will pay primes out of my own pocket for anyone completing the race on a tandem.

Who wants to be the stoker?

[edit] seat is taken....come watch
