Looking for a Cinelli Alter stem

I'm in the market for a Cinelli Alter stem. My LBS doesn't have them and I've only bought from a few online store. I don't exactly trust every online store that pops up in google.

Does anyone have a LBS that has this in stock that will ship it to me or can someone recommend a reputable OBS that I can get it from.

Thanks,

C

eBay. You can find them online if you search Google.

Yeah, but I'm being a bit cautious. I've had friends get screwed when shopping by google. That's why I'd prefer a recommended place over a ebay/google search hit.

and xxcycle.com has them, but I'm guessing you wouldn't want to deal with them. eBay is problably your best option though. They pop up all the time on there and you can score them for MUCH less than what you're going to pay anywhere else.

Are they all 1"?

I need 1 1/8".

Sin-A-Matic 05-23-06 09:56 AM

I thought the alter stems were all 1", but I could be mistaken.

Doctor Who 05-23-06 09:56 AM

I'd just snag one off of eBay when they surface. I got mine, a 140 mm, for $10 and some change, plus shipping. $89.99 is a lot of bread for a heavy stem, even though it's awesome looking.

You're not mistaken. They only came in 1".

Oh well. The search is over

If I get it, I'd have to buy a Cinelli Olympic to go with it.

Thanks to all for the info.

Hey, if you are really into that style stem, check out Cinelli Integralter (or possibly Integralters, I'm not sure) Same style stem, with a cool looking airfoil bar thats built in. You can find them on ebay still. It is 1 1/8 inch. Actually here is a link to an auction with them: Cinelli Integralter E-bay auction

My local co-op had one sitting in their display case this weekend when I dropped by. Not sure how much they want for it, or if they'd consider shipping, but here's the number for whatever it's worth. 503-239-0553.

I found it fantastically ugly. I even considered buying it for my bike, then I realized that I need to save up for my freeride fully more than I need a new stem.

Why don't you look at the Modolo OXO stem? It's the same kind of principle, even sharper in my opinion, and comes with a 25.4 clamp (perfect for track bars) and a 1-1/8" steer clamp. Very slick stem. Looks like it was designed by Calatrava. Here's a pic:

I have a brand new 13 cm one if you're interested. Still in the box.

Looks interesting but I have 26mm bars and I dig the Cinelli better with it's design and graphics and all.

This is *very* tempting, but I don't ever get in the drops so I use bullhorns to stay up top or out forward.

I may see if I can get these on the cheap and pimp them as my "date" bars.

Just a warning. The Integralter bar/stem combo had a chronic problem with the welds breaking on the handlebars. The weld was the one at the outer end of the tops. They discontinued them for that reason.

+1 I broke one and the distributor would not even warranty it. Piece of crap.

this stem needs to be combined with a miche supertype seatpost, some cut-out high flange hubs and jasonsan's(?) perforated top-tube jonnycycles.

oh and some CNC-ed kooka cranks.

the speedhole bike.

the 2 pair I have and the pair my brother has are fine. I also dont tend to yank on them or end up in the drops all to often because I spend most of my time in traffic.

If you ride fast enough, and cover the proper holes, you can then play the bike like a recorder. Yankee Doodle is your first assignment.
