I ordered everything I'll need for my new wheels today. The folks at Yojimbo's were very cool. I got the red deep V velocity rims, silver nipples, spokes, tires and tubes on the way.
how much did you pay for the rims?

I recently bought some red anodized rims from Road Rage here in town...
I couldn't find them anywhere else, not even on eBay. I was actually going to get a pair of the FiR rims (eBay) but a local wheel builder told me that they're garbage rims; really shoddily made.
So I finally found a pair of 36-hole Mavic CXP 33's....not as deep as Deep V's, which I'm not a big fan of.
I really wanted the anodized rims and not powdercoated 'cause to me the powdercoating looks cheap and garish. Anodizing has a great deep red lustre. The ****ing rims were $260 for the pair!!!
No spokes, hubs, nada. Just the rims! And like an idiot I paid for 'em. Granted I was late to work, ran in, bought 'em, raced out, then started thinking...."man, that's a lot for a pair of rims!" The more I thought about it the more ****ed up I felt so I called dude back and was like, "$260/pair?? what gives?!" And he tells me they haven't made anodized rims in years, these are new old stock, 36-hole is hard to find, etc...
So I asked if he could cut the price a bit, and he told me he'd give me a break on building 'em up.
But still I think, all told, I spent over $300 on just the rims, spokes, and having them laced to my hubs.
So between the rims, the Phil hubs, the Armadillo All-Conditions tires..that's close to $700 for the wheelset. And i'm also bummed aesthetically that the machined sidewalls aren't anodized, it would look so much better if they were. So I learned my lesson: wait and find it on eBay.

I'm not sure how much I paid for them. I purchased so much stuff I'll have to look at the prices once they arrive.

The Red Mavic CXP33's are VERY rare. SJS cycles only has one available, I've contacted them about it directly. A set was recently sold on eBay (to someone here) for $130. Those rims a very highly regarded and worth every penny.
