The Skylark, Formula 1 Race Cars and the Lake

Natt, Val, Evan, Genesis, Joe, and simon in the background

Val getting hungry for some Formula 1 wheel with me

Joe at the lake

So we started at the Skylark with the intention of going down to where Miegs Field used to be to do some late night sprinting. Well, after a beer or two and alot of Tater-Tots we headed on down to the lake. As we are going east on 22nd street going past State St. there is this Formula 1 race car at the stop light, so I stop and try to take a picture of it. Turns out it is the Jim bean car and a bar up the street is giving rides for like 10 bucks. We are all standing around waiting for it to come back to take a picture. As it makes the turn to come to a stop it looses its rear left wheel. Pretty crazy. the guys all act normal like this sort of thing happens all the time. Then we went down toward the lake where Miegs field used to be to do some sprinting, but when we ended up on the rocks on the lake front, sprinting went out the window and some really good hanging out at the water commenced. Good times. And the wind died down for us as well.

its one bolt and they couldnt even get that right. on the other hand, if they told you before hand something could go horribly wrong $10 death rides might be thrilling.

Def. not an F1 car, just some other racecar-ish 2 person creature. I'm not even sure it can be a 2-person version of an actual racecar, cuz that would be way too expensive to run for them to offer a ride for $10. I think it costs a couple of 1000 to get in one of the F1 twoseaters for a lap, but they do have the same engine, tyres, suspension and all the other **** the big boys race with.

Still, must've been pretty funny...

Nope, it's an Indy car. They probably built a two-seater for exactly these kinds of marketing opportunities.

Whatever astericking kind of car it was, it was weird/random/unexpected (pick a word) to see that thing on a city street. ... And then the wheel fell off.

What a night! Nice to see you all again.

some explaination: this is me, describing the passenger of said Indy Car as a muffintop. I'm not saying his heaviness broke the car's wheel. I'm just sayin'... dude had girth.

I was hoping posting that picture would prompt your explanation.

Aww, sorry I missed it. Looks like fun. Ima be out with ya'll like crazy post June 4.

And guys? That's not an F1 car. F1 cars don't get driven around the south side of Chicago offering drunks a ride for $10 a pop. They live in climate controlled laboratories inside dormant volcanoes in secret islands off the coast of Corfu, where their baby tear baths can be free of the dirty, covetous eye ****ings of the hoi polloi. What you saw was probably an F1 kit car. Still pretty cool, though, I've seen it up at the Clark street frat row before.

a guy in the pit crew was explaining how it's a race car 'modified' for the street with a passenger cockpit, mirrors, smaller engine, etc. he told us this, just before the rear wheel flew off and bounced across the intersection.

Next time I hope to be there for more than just a
drunken end of night cameo. I ended up going back to
the lakefront and riding some more.

You'll fit right in.

And Shlo? That could only be funnier like this:

"Yeah, these babies are all hand-built Italian monsters. Solid as a rock. You could drive this thing day and night for a year and it'd barely need a tune-up."

POP WHAM...wheel pathetically rolls across the pavement. You look at him, he looks at you. HILARITY!!

I could be wrong about the kit car. There was a crew, the trailer, 2 cars, I dunno.

The best part is, as this three wheeled car is barreling towards the curb... none of us really bothered to move/react. we all just kinda stood there... kinda strange, aren't we supposed to have cat-like 6th senses for **** like this?
Perhaps we need to be on our bikes for that to work.

Sure did...I've got respect for people pushing single gears up those hills.

So, if anyone was wondering where I went, my office, for some reason, decided to block BikeForums (eee), and my upstairs neighbor, with whom we were splitting internet, moved out. Just struck a deal with a new neighbor...your boy is back. What it do.

whammo.

Great pics. Let me just add:

After the formula one car went for it's ride around the block we all were out in the street looking at the other formula one car. One of the men manning the ride said (paraphrasing) "whoa whoa step back on the sidewalk this guy has been driving crazy". I thought he was being pretty maternalistic until I saw that wheel fly off.

exactly

they instead drive (crash) on the streets and tunnels of monaco

monaco f1 gp = f1 parade where p1 is everything - pit passing only - what a waste!

btw---

i predict p1 to schumacher qualifying on fumes with massa in p2 to block (bottle neck)
shuey will then set the fastest opening laps times on cold bridgestones, as only he can, pit, win, and later sip champagne aboard mika hakkinen's yacht anchored just off the cove.

Schumacher has been qualifying on a heavy fuel load all season in order to pull ahead of alonso when alonso has to pit. I'm betting alonso gets pole and manages to keep ahead of schumacher. Despite fisichella blocking from the start.
